is there a differnce in the 95 gauge cluster vs a 97?

I want to replace my 97gxe gauges with white se gauges. i don't think i want to use the overlays i prefer changing thhe whole unit. i have located a 95 se gauges but i was told that they only fit in 95-96 and that 97 is different.. i thought that they were the same through 95-97 and that in 98 they went digital..please help guys i need a positive answer before i buy it...thanks, louis

Not sure when they went digital but the only noticeable diff besides that is that the fuel gauge faces the opposite direction on the newer ones. (I had 99 and 95 MAxs).

you COULD ask the dealer


the cluster went digital in 1998, so the 97s still have the analog odometers.

Also the needles in the 95 were white w black line and the newer ones(?) had orange needle pointers

Not only that, but in 98 and above, the the feul gage and the temp gage face each other, being more symmetrical in look. On 97s and earlier, the gages both faced left.
