A/C Blower Woes

I have an '89 GXE with a broken blower. High speed has been broken for 4 years and now speeds 1-3 no longer work. 1-3 worked sporadically for a week or so - now nothing. The A/C compressor kicks on when the switch is moved from OFF to 1-3. Cool air comes out with A/C on - and highway speed. Dealer said a new blower and switch was needed ($500) - I think otherwise.

I'd check the resistor also.

It's located behind the glove box. Remove the glove for easy access.

Are you talking about getting the "push control unit", as chiltons calls it, replaced. it is the part which controls which vents are on, speed of the fan, temperature of heat? if so i just had mine replaced by my mechanic. I found the part at a junkyard for 35 dollars locally using this search engine: www.parts_bin.com. sorry the computer i am on(work) is old and i can't get the exact page because it is having trouble reading the stickie. but the link is in the 3rd gen forum, sticky entitled "General Maintaince links. good luck.
