Hi, I think I might have a problem with my serpentine belt or a/c compressor on my 2000 SE but I need some advice on the situation:
- Whining noise right where the belt are (see image)
- Check engine came on but for some reason I was reading no code. I erased it but never came back.
- A/C stopped working (coincidence?)
- Smoke coming from the belt area (a/c compressor?)
- Burning smell
- The belts dont seem to have slip or loosen (a/c compressor is blown ?)
1. What is the most probable issue here?
2. I don't really have time to work on my car, is it a lot of labour to fix $$ or worth doing it myself (if possible) ?
3. Can I drive to the garage with this problem or I risk messing up stuff around like power steering, ac compressor, alternator and such?

Sounds like seized bearings on AC compressor restricting the serpentine belt. Probably not a good idea to continue to drive it as you are putting more stress on other components.

If this is the case, does this means I need a new compressor?
