Night before meet , car stabs me in the back

After work yesterday I noticed that my car was starting to make stupid chirping noises. I knew that my belts needed to be changed so using my nice employee discount I got new Nissan belts for 15 dollars are started to Change them in my driveway. First of all this is much harder to do on the ground with no air lift and no air tools
The oil pump bolt is a pain in the *** to get to and then try removing it. well I got that bolt off 30 minutes later. So after that pain, I started to raise the idler pulley, son of a gun broke. With two turns the bolt snapped. Having Nissa close at 4 dosent help so I had to ghetto rig that. Finally at like 7 I put back everything on, all the belts are nice and tight with 1/2 inch freeplay. I start the car up and it sounds like a gang of cats were having a royal rumble. So I take everything off, take apart the idler pulley thinking that its the bearing thats creating the problem. Start the car up again... nope this same problem. I trew in the towel at 10 pm last night. WEnt to bed ****ed off because the NE meet is this Sunday and I who started it wont be able to even drive my own Maxima to be there Woke up early this morning to give it one more shot to rid my car of this problem. After a brief lookover the car and what not I notice that after 10 seconds of running the alternator pulley is very hot. So now I have a broken idler pulley bolt and bad alternator pulley bearings. I guess my car wont be going to the meet. For those who care, I still will be there but I will ride down with 88maximase.

1/2" of free play sounds way too high. Free play sound only be something like 1/4" of something. The sound you were hearing was loose belts.

the belts gave you that much of a hard time? the idler pulley nut is 14mmm, and then loosen the 14MM tensioner. Now the other 12MM nut get that one from the side engine and then go to the bottom and is weird you tighten up the nut using universal joints to get to it and a long extension. You dont need air tools.
