Fuel Filler Door Latch

I posted this in the 5th Gen forum, but i think those cars are different.
I have a 99 I30.
Do Maximas have a remote dash button to open the fuel filler door like the I30 does?
What do you do if the elctric solenoid that opens the filler door fails?
The 5th gen people said to use a lever in the trunk, but my car does not have one that I could find.
Most things break eventually - how do you fix this one?

I have a 95 maxima and it doesn't have remote a button to open the fuel door. It's a lever that I pull which opens the door. Does the solenoid make a sound when you push the button? You might need to grease it up because dirt might have accumulated. You should go out to an autozone, pepboys, or online to get a haynes manual. It's a great $16 investment. Good luck

Mine s not broken, but when it does I will probably be low on gas.

Anyone else know how these get opened when the electrics fail?

okay, so i know this is off base from your question, but it made me think...

is there a way to add that electric fuel door switch to the maximas? i know it's small, but i would love to have that on my car. i've been wondering this for some time now. same thing regarding the nice auto-dimming mirror the i30s have.

also, i have no idea what to do if it breaks. sorry man.

infiniti

make sure it's not damaged wires or fuse first though.

Infiniti is a top of the line sturdy machine, and the chances are that your fuel filler opener solenoid is working fine.

So it works sometimes and it doesn't work when low on gas
This means solenoid has no problem.

Check the wire. Then clean the solenoid area. And also clean the fuel filler door edges...could be really dirty.

When I had starting trouble, Autozone people did some test and told me my alternator went dead, which was not true. A simple negative ground wire has been damaged. And I found that out the hard way, $260 later.
