Has anyone been experiencing excessive wind noise from the rear window pillars?. At highway speeds i have a constant wind noised that is quite annoying. I have taken the car back to the dealer on two occasions and have been told that it is a characteristic of the car. If I pinch the pillar with my fingers the noise is reduced dramatically. Has anyone else experienced this?

yes

but only one windy days...you can hear it when the stereo is off, but its very subtle. Still, you can here it over the windshield or A-pillar wind noise, which BTW isn't very loud.

I have noticed the same thing recently. It is very subtle and I think I only hear it from the passenger side of the car. It sounds like the weather stripping in the rear door is loose or something. Gotta get it checked out next time I go to the dealer.

Do you hear at all speeds or only certain times? I notice it when I am going above 65 mph. At first I thought it was the rear deck, but I am pretty sure that it is the door seals or something.

I never noticed this until I let a friend of mine drive my Max. In my car, the wind noise seems to be coming from the driver's side rear door. The strange thing is, that you can't hear it from the driver's seat!

the noise occurs at any speed above 50 mph. It happens on both sides. the passenger side is more noticeable.

I can hear it from the drivers side, and it seem to come from the rear left door area only in my car , if I have other people in the car they say it's the rear left too.

Also does anyone hear any strange sounds during heavy rain, a couple of days ago I was driving in heavy rain and I heard the sound water makes when it goes down a rain-pipe coming from the pillars where the front seat belts are housed. The sound was from both sides and pretty loud.

A lot of people have mentioned the rain noise before. Sounds a bit like a running faucet. I am afraid that is just a characteristic of the car.

I hear mine from 70+mph. Doesn't bother me much. As for the rain thing, I don't drive on the highway much during the rain. I should try it in the spring.

The passenger side wind noise, however, has just appeared (a few days ago,... 6,300 miles)

Oh dear..

Clickity Clack goes the 2K Nissan!!!

Agreed.. If I wanted quiet, I woulda bought something SLOW and BORING...

But if these squeaks and rattles keep popping up at the same rate they have so far.. pretty soon i'm gonna need a "n***** box" in my trunk to drown it out... Bose can only do SO MUCH!! :-)

true...but..

I agree with what you all are stating, but i didn't plunk down $28k for a car that experiences air leaks. I'm planning on taking this to the dealership to have this checked out.

Ha ha ha... let us know how it goes...

-Tom

Hint: 2 possible outcomes for this one ->

#1 - Car is operating within specifications
#2 - Could not replicate customer's concerns...

I find that turning up the Bose system is especially good for exhibiting buzzes and rattles in the trunk and rear deck area. It's the first car I've owned that has it's own diagnostic system for mechanical noises!

I found that out, too. The rear windows have alot of frost on them, no matter how high you turn on the heater. Really sucks because it makes your car look like it has a POS heating system when really it doesn't. Since so many people have this problem, I'm just thinking it must be a characteristic of the 5th G's

I didn't notice it until I gave a friend of mine, who also has a 2000 SE, a ride to the dealer. Since he pointed it out, it bugs me. He also pointed out a squeak that we both have but I never noticed. I don't think I'll be giving him any more rides, at least not in my Maxima.

Yeah. I noticed the noise when I was in the passenger seat the other day. I also hate those rattles from the stereo in the back. Is it the speaker, or the trunk shaking from all of the WATTS OF PURE BASS! No, I dont turn up the bass, just the volume, but it sounds like its up.

I too have noticed when I turn up the volume, I hear so much noise and rattles come from the back deck. Oh well...suks g. One other thing, has anyone else noticed a rattle in their front dash? I hear a rattling noise when I am on the highway. It's coming from somewhere either behind the radio, or just under it...the area around the fold out ash tray or coin tray...whatever...for me it's a coin tray. I think I'm going to go to the dealeo and raise some @#$^#$%^%$##!$^&!!!!

Try pushing in the Radio faceplate when going over bumps. See if that takes the rattle away. Geesh, It seems like almost everybody, including myself, is having this problem. If your dealer can't duplicate the squeak, what you can do it pound on the steering wheel rim and the squeak should occur. Then do the same when you are pressing on the radio faceplate ( mine is on the left side near the CD eject button ) and show him/her that it is squeaking. It should be replaced under warrenty if its within the 3years/36,000miles....But if it isn't the radio, do the same for the coin try. It should work.

Check Edmonds Site for Wind Noise Information

Several weeks back in the postings at the Edmonds site, someone mentioned that they had taken their car to the dealer for this problem. What they found out, was that the metal separator piece and seal around the small back seat window were the culprits. They also stated that the dealer parts guys said that the parts were on backorder, which meant that this was probably a common problem on the 2000/2001 Max.

This doesn't necessarily mean that everyone has this same problem, but you might want to check it out or have the dealer look at. I have some noise in my 20th AE SE, and this is one place I'm going to have the dealer check.

Edmonds site is : http://www.edmunds.com/newcars/2001/...ryedition.html
