Thinking about a 5 speed manual conversion.

Hello , I am thinking about converting my car over to 5speed , I just had a new automatic transmission installed, and I was wondering if I can use the automatic transmission still, or will I need a whole new transmission. I really want a 5 speed max, it will proably be cheaper to sell mine and pickup a 5 speed max somewhere else. I have a 94 GXE Pearl White, its beautiful, but its auto, and I dont want a grandma automatic anymore. Any links to some information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Joe

Thanks for the info...

Thanks folks, I appreciate it. Im looking in the bargain news where I live and I see a few 91 92 5 Speeds for under 3000. I wonder how I can tell a VG from a VE from just looking at it? Any characteristics?

Thanks

the intake is most aparent. the vg intake goes forward then drops down and then curves to the right. there are some pictures around here of them. basically, if you look under the hood of a vg max you'll know it's vg (if you know what the ve looks like)

VE = black trim around windows, dark red tailights, front grille is body colored and has the nissan "hamburger" symbol

Look for those combinations, and you should have a VE.

my friend harold converted his 4th gen from auto to 5sp. his screen name on here is hlh0501. do a search for his name and go to his website, there you should find a link to a how-to page on his conversion.

Link to 5 Speed Conversion?

Thanks for the link, but is that
link universal regarding all generation
maximas?

Just curious, I am willing to by the parts for the project, I just dont want it to cost more than 2000, because I can get a 5 speed with 200000 miles for 1500.

Thanks for all the replies guys, real help all of you!

Re: Re: Link to 5 Speed Conversion?

I am buying it in CT, the guy said it had 265000+ 5 Speed VE he is asking 1750, i can get him down lower though. I just want a 5 speed VE so badly, I dont care how many miles it has...I want something to beat around in. Think I should settle for 1500 or go lower?

I currently have a Pearl White 94 GXE auto, and with 111000 Miles, I just want a 5 speed. How much could I sell my GXE for, comes with alarm and has some neons and a nice blue LED for the alarm. Its clean, minor dings.

actually, i would take off any mods if you are going to sell it. most mods usually decrease the value of the car, unless you are selling it to someone that wants to do the same thing to the car as you.

SO... I should take out all neons and extra work I have done to the car?

it might increase the value of the car. on thing you can do is see how much a dealership would offer you for the car in its current condition then ask them how much more if all of the stuff was out of it. it might even change it that much but sometimes does.
