Alot of nice tires only go up to 17", like the AVS intermediate. What kind of tires do you have? Any comments on them will be helpful. I'm interested in good performance with a decent tread wear.
My previous two sets were Nitto NT-555. They were great in dry and awesome tread wear. They could easily go 40K miles. The wet traction is scary. I want to try something different this time.
I'm thinking about either Toyo T1-S or Yokohama AVS sport (I hear they wear out pretty fast ~5K).
What about these, anyone ever ride on the tires below?
BFGoodrich Comp T/A ZR
Dunlop SP Sport 9000
Michelin Pilot Sport
Michelin Pilot SX MXX3
Pirelli PZero Rosso Asimmetrico

I have Michelin Pilot XGT Z4(ultra high performance all-season) 245/40/ZR18 all-around on my GS400, today it's snowing and it handles pretty decent.
I will have Pirelli PZero Rosso Asimmetrico(max performance summer) 235/40/ZR18&265/35/ZR18 for my M roadster, supposely it's one of the best summer tires out there.
I am riding on Michelin Pilot Sport right now, it's OEM tires for my M roadster, great tires, mad grippy, pricy though, the OEM 17" is ~$260 apiece.

Dunlop SP9000
Great in wet and dry. Very good ride for a 235/40/18. Treadwear seems good (I've only had for about 10K and no signs of wear).
Minor quibbles:
They "tread growl" at low speeds (around 10mph)and fling stones everywhere (sticky)
I'd prolly buy again.

Tony, what up?
Here's my experiences w/ 18's
You want absolute mad grip, get Bridgestone SO2. They're great wet & dry, balances out perfectly. Bad points--they're a tad noisy, poor traction when old (rubber turns hard), expensive, and short life. My last set wentsouth at 8k miles. Will definitely buy again if I can afford the short tread life vs cost!
Dunlop sp8000, a good all around tire wet & dry. Easy to balance too. My set lasted 20k miles. Semi-costly price, but you get semi-good performance.
Pirelli p7000 super sport. Cheap, thats all I can say for the good points. Poor wet traction, very poor traction during the last 1/4 of tire life. The tire squeals around corners. I would not buy again.
Continental contact sport--Stay away!!! POS
Dunlop sp 9000. These are on my car now. Med to high price, but med to high performance. Rolls good, balances good, low noise. I got these right after the SO2's, so of course they didn't feel as good. But, you have to reach a balance between price, performance, and longivity. Will see about the tread life.
I heard Yokohamas don't balance good, and I'm real picky about the ride quality of the tire, so I've never bought a set.
My buddy who works at a tire place told me about the Michelin pilot sport mxxs as a good all around tire too. Costly to me, but he said they ride good and stick well.
My choices.
Best performance--SO2
Best ride--any MIchelin pilot sport tires
Best all around--SP8 or 9000

i got nitto 555.....
I used to have pirelli p7000 on my 91 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS-T. They were good until after 5000 miles. I started seeing hairline cracks in the tires. And thread wear sucked too. So far with my Nitto 555 235/40/18 I've already put 9000 miles on it and it still looks brand new and performs the same when it was brand new. traction, threadwear and ride for an 18' tire is good -excellent
hmmm.. Most of the M guys i know go with the michelin pilot sports, they really are worth it IMO, i cant tell as a driver but as a passanger. The P-Zero's are nice as well. Dunlop S0-2's went south on one of my friends car after 7K miles but while he had them they were the Awesome in Dry weather.
