Re: How crappy are these tires?

SuperSports or summer? Both are pretty decent. Not great, but decent. IMHO not quite as good as Dunlop SP5000s but pretty close. SuperSports have good tread life (35K+ miles for me). The summers get about 2/3rds the life.

Very good price for either tire for a 17x8 wheel, though. Go for it.

You are certain it's P7000, not 700, right?

I had them for 50K miles! Good tires, great grip but very very noisy....amplified by 10 when the tread gets low.

If you want a quiter tire, superior grip and awesome treadlife, I suggest shelling out some more $$ and getting the bridgstone potenza S03 pole positions. Awesome tire.

here's why I ask

I can either get

1 the pilot sport A/S for around $900 + tax

OR

A set of 17X8 wheels plus these pirelli supersports for almost the same price

I saw that deal too and jumped on it... after reading all the reviews complaining about excessive noise, I canceled out on the order. Another potential problem with the P7000 is the soft sidewalls reported by fellow max owner who had the 235/45/17s on his 17x8 MoMo arrows. He got bubbles as a result of soft sidewalls.

IMHO, Get the rims and tires. Rims you will have for a long time, tires (depending on how you drive) will last you anywhere from 10k-60K. 6 months down the road, those pilots might go on sale. The P7000 aren't that bad. Cornering, wet/dry handling are are very good. The noise is the only thing. Just turn up your stereo and it will go away.

Hello, Well I had Pirelli P7000 SS in 225/45/17 on my 3rd gen when I bought my rims a little over 3 years ago. I bought these tires because I thought they would work best in Miami weather. I must say that the tires perform very well in both dry and wet situations. The wet traction is what impressed me the most. I remember running through a pretty deep puddle at full speed and the car did break traction.

Like someone mentioned these tires have a soft sidewall. The rear tires went bald due to bad alignment (camber) a long while ago. I had new tires (Kuhmo 711's) put on 2 days ago and I noticed that the old Pirelli's had some pretty nasty scrap marks all the way around the sidewall. I have no idea what caused this, but I can assure that its not from parallel parking. The 2 remaining Pirelli's are now on the rear and one of them has some pretty sever splitting.

I decided to go with the Kuhmo Ecsta 711's because once there mounted it looks like theres A LOT more tire. Very nice beefy tires and the tread pattern is not as aggresive looking, but very nice none the less. I have them mounted in the front and I the dry traction is just as good if not better than the Pirelli's. I have yet to test the wet traction, but I expect them to perform just as well.

Take care,
Kevin

BTW I had the Kuhmos mounted and balanced for $90 each.

Personally, I'd say go with Dunlop. I've had my time with Pirelli and I have much more grip with the Dunlop tire.

A guy around the corner from me has them in 17x8 (I was just talking to him last night). They look really nice on the Maxima, so go for it! I have the EVOs myself, really like the Mille brand. They are pretty fly, perhaps a touch heavy, but still a great looking and 'resistant' tire all around. Cleaning them is as easy as a hose and a wet sponge weekly (damn brake dust), and they shiiiiine like crazy.
