Gates K060705 Does not fit with 3.125

I found several pages that says this is the right belt, from reputabvle ppl like Kev, etc.

Anyways, my mechanic says the belt is too long and he thinks it's going to squeal like mad. I told him I was certain it was the right belt, but he doesn't think so.

Anyone got any ideas, or can tell me for sure that it's right.

Thanks, PS it's going on a V1

Works for MardiGrasMax, JAY25, iansw, etc. (all V1). Are you sure the mechanic didn't miss looping around a pulley?

Thanks Kev, the mechanic said the pulley he took off was seems longer then the new gates one???

Ok, how tight is this belt supposed to be, he says there's 1/4' to 1/2" of tension (whatever that means).

Thanks for the replies!
This is second gen V1 btw

Matt had the 3.125 pulley and it worked just fine for him. Tighten the belt with the adjuster and then tighten the tensioner pulley the belt will sinch down some more. If not then PM Mardigrasmax and ask him if you dont believe us.

I told my mechanic to give it a shot, he thinks it may work he's just not accustomed to it being that loose, he said maybe it's that looses to protecth th sc's bearings. Anyways, he says he can get a 1" shorter belt and do it with that, but he'd have to start all over and charge me for that, doh.

I told him to try it with the gates belt i gave him, he's gonna fire ti up and see.

Matt did not use the 705 for his pulley, 695 is where it's at.

considering how many times I have done it, take my word for it... go get the 695 belt and be done with it.

705 may fit, but will be too loose, prolly not allow for enough tension if not slide off all together

Woah! 695 is short. That wouldn't even go on the 2.87" on the V2's.

How long is Cummy's thingy?

the belt adjuster is the thing that adjusts the tension on the belt. If Delio says that Matt had a 695 then go w/what he says. Just PM him if anything.

You're talking to me?

I don't know what size the belt is. You have to ask Lynn Tong, that was his SC. The belt was on there already along with the 3.125 pulley. It's a Goodyear Gatorbelt though, not a Gates. Suprisingly, the belt is holding up pretty good, no tear or anything.

Btw, I think my boost problem is fixed. I adjusted the BOV which seem to be the culprit. I will know for sure if my boost problem is fix next week. I'm heading to the track(finally stop raining!), so I will know for sure once and for all. Oh, I will remember to do the multi-task.

My mechanic is putting in the goodyear gatorback as well, he thinks it's a REAL good belt.

Anyways, cumalot what was wrnog with your BOV, open too much or too closed. What BOV conditions would cause boost loss?

Are you serious?

Yes, I was talking to you Cummy. If you didn't change the belt, then you have the K070605 Gates equivalent belt because Lynn asked me.

Wow my mechanic got the new belt and everything ready to go in 35 minutes, so he's only charging me an additional $25 cause he had to do it again.

Thanks for all the advice guys, and thanks for the timely responses.

Ok I got the car, I instantly noticed that I have boost at like 2000 RPM liek I used to have at 3000-3500 which is very nice.

After a little while I put it down, I was only able to manage about 7.5 PSI on the guage, before I had been hitting just about 6 in the middle of the hot day.

My BOV (greddy) was insanely loud, so I tightened it down to about 5-6 threads and just hit about 9 PSI.

If I recall V1's tend to boost about 1 LB less then the same V2/pulley combo. That would mane I'm hitting about 10 on a V2. I'll probably be able to manage 10 when it gets colder.

All in all though it feels faster from 4000-5500 but not too much faster after 5500, I guess I need that MEVI to get this thing to breathe.

Autometer guage seems to be in just about the same place when I'm WOT that it was before the install, and the boost guage seems to shake a little more then it did with stock pulley.

I got the same BOV as you do, the Greddy. It was open up too much I think. I adjusted down to about 5 threads left with the hex nut on. Much better response now.

Glad to see you got the other belt, the 605. Michael when are you going to get that ME VI? I am thinking of ordering one in about 90 days.

Since I bought new wheels, the MEVI will have to wait. I can't get anything more for awhile.
