I want my auto tranny + SC to last, need suggestion
Hi all: recently two SCed auto 5th gen had tranny problems and they all have vb/tranny cooler/TCM/solenoid. The owners of these 2 5th gens have the problems short after the SC was isntalled. I just got my daily driving 2k auto boosted last week. Now I am thinking, how will I keep my auto tranny in good condition for several years (at least 8 years) with the SC on and still have fun?
my own analysis
1.My vb (valvebody recal by Don) for 5th gen is not strong enough for 1st - 2nd gear. And I dont feel it all the time from 1st to 2nd.
2.with the 3.6 pulley (I have 3.33), seems most power increase happens near 3900+ rpm according to the dyno graph from 5thgenmaxima's how-to.
So does this mean if I want my tranny to last, I should keep 1st-2nd or maybe 2nd-3rd gear shifting under 3000rpm?
what do u guys suggest?? I dont want my tranny to die.....
or the 5th gen tranny just cant handle the SC?
thx

Then, you'll have the "R" light up when you go into reverse.

5th gen auto trannies are relative POS's, so I would just toss it and go manual.

I just killed my piggy bank for the blower and the upcoming trip to Hong Kong. I always thought the tranny wear indicates its conditon....but Nvmymax's tranny does not show any wear and fluid is sitll red. hmmmm.....Kevin, what did u do to keep ur auto tranny in good condition? or is it just factory strong tranny?
I have few plans in mind:
1.do everything I can in my power to have it last for several years and then do a 5spd swap. which means no stop light racing and more frequent tranny services....or prob. use an intercooler as a tranny cooler
(cost: $2000)2.buy ur auto tranny next year and send it to Level10 or Maximum Tuning for rebuilt. (cost: 500 for the tranny + 900 for the rebult = $1400 + other costs)
I would really like to go with first option....
Dustyroads : I havent heard much about their rebuilt.....if I need it now, I will still go with Level10 since they rebuilt a lot of tranny for boosted cars. (like the 400hp auto Supra)
wish me luck guys.....

Since Kev was helpful for you on the S/C install, I would contract him out for the 5-speed conversion.

the R light when reverse = vtech indicator light for Honda....

I know....something wrong with 5th gen auto....seems 4th gen has better tranny than 5th gens. but I cant afford to toss it away!

Blake's tranny failure sounds like a freak incident where it just went out all of a sudden.
