pinging noise

What is it when you turn off your car and you start to hear the engine go ping snap crackle pop. I read somewhere that it was the extra gas burning off after the car was turned off. How do you fix the problem?

if you have an auto its the fluid dripping back into the pan from the vavle body

nothing to worry about
