Finally got to do my 1/4 mile run

Anyways finally got to the track and did some runs actually traded off with my friends that came with me. I got 2 runs and then they would get to runs. My first run was embarassing 1st time to the track I get to the line get ready to go it hits the last yellow so I jump it...practically the best reaction time I had all night but the car popped out of gear. Thought something happened to the tranny...so went through the gears real fast and then took off got a wonderufl 21.647 All I took out was the subs and the spare...and I didn't even lower the pressure of tires.

But second run I got
Reaction: .969
60ft: 2.351
1/8: 9.686 @ 75.585
1/4: 14.805 @ 97.254

Shifted out of 1st way to soon I guess nerves caused it...shifted at about 6200RPM, but had the fastest MPH out of all my friends that took a run. Gave my friends some tips and they bested me with the 60ft and 1/4 time..almost identical.

Reaction: 1.098 .966
60ft: 2.303 2.324
1/8: 9.598@75.345 9.587@75.412
1/4: 14.785@95.342 14.783@94.11 (shifted into 4th)

Figured that the weight of the driver had something to do with the 1/4 mile times. Anyway not to shabby considering that we were about 3700Ft above Sea level, that all our runs were in the slower of the 2 lanes, and our 1st time ever at a 1/4 mile track.

BTW there were several GT mustangs from 02' and 98' with exahaust and headers and air intake running 15.1-15.4 So, was getting a lot of respect and a lot of people thought I was running NOS...so I guess 14.7 is a good time at the track. Also a guy that runs a 240SX with all sorts of stuff done he was running 12.05-12.3 said that he was impressed and took his 01' max 5spd out and was running 16.1-16.6 stock. Just for a comparison

Nice #s. What kind of wheels/tires did you have? or more importantly, any idea what their weight is?

I have Toyo FZ4s on which probably proved to be a real handicap. They squealed like nuts! What rpm did you shift into 4th?

Sorry for all the questions but you look like a good person to learn from given your impressive numbers.

cheers!

Honestly, street tires are street tires when it comes to the drag strip. The guys pulling the best 60' times on here actually have just normal all season worn out street tires, not high performance tires. They don't make much of a difference, unless they are DRs or slicks. The weight also has little effect, with a drop of about 7lbs (from 37lb combo to a 30lb combo) I only saw an increase of 1mph and about .1 second.

BTW john that 97.25 trap speed is HUGE at 3700feet. You'd trap 100mph if you were at a track closer to sea level. Your car is hauling.

Thanks Nealoc...Seriously the car felt so good and healthy none stop pull to 7200RPMs...I did some general maintence and found out that my knock sensor was cracked (I had been getting KS codes for about 6 months, but been too lazy to do something about it), so replaced that and since then the car has been running like it was brand new. I have to say running at a 1/4 mile track is really addicting...I hope they reopen the one here in Albuquerque Otherwise I'm going to have to make the trip down to Roswell more often .

Nealoc, what mods do you have to acheive 13 seconds all motor. I am in the market for a 4th gen Max and want to get fairly quick on motor.

Best combination to get in to the high 13's NA is VIM, Y-pipe, CAI/hybrid, exhaust, clutch, ECU and slicks probably help...that should get you into the 13's...but the main thing is practice, and being closer to sea level and good weather. Myself I'm probably a 13 car but can't get to 13's NA where I'm located elevation is way too high.

At this point I have intake, y pipe, test pipe (useless) and the variable intake manifold off of the middle eastern domestic market maxima. I made the run on slicks. There's alot of stuff I still have to do to this motor, including some of the basic bolt ons such as underdrive pulley and full exhaust, and JWT ECU. Also in my future are the newly released JWT cams, probably with a custom more agressive grind than they are offering, and their valvesprings. Looking into the possibility of using a VQ35 shortblock with my VQ30 heads too, but that is still in the research stages, to see whether or not its feasible.

i trapped out in etown at 98.5mph (once). i was kinda surprised because i missed a shift during that run and ran an average ET. i think it was 14.5 or something. i wonder if i'll be cutting anywhere close to 2.0 60's now that the weather is so cold. there's no traction. however, my new dunlop sport A2s seem to feel stickier than my worn out BFGs. maybe this week i will test and tune. i just want to fill my gas tank all the way once again lol. oh by the way, my SR20DET is on the way! i'm pretty excited about that. hopefully, my S13 will take over the racing assignment.
