My very first MOD!!??

well, now that i'm a proud new owner of a maxima, i want to do something that would make it look different or feel different...
but my problem is making a decision on what i want?? so here i am hoping that any of you experienced max owners could help me out a lil bit... i currently own a 95 gle (auto)...just last night i raced a accord sedan 5spd w/racing clutch and CAI...he left me at the launch but i caught up (oooh the power of the max!) but i wanted to smoke him...what can i get performance wise to help my max breath a lil better??? (excluding turbo, s/c, & nitrous) which first mod did you guys end up doing?? intake? exhaust? suspension? which is most affordable with great quality?? i'm lookin to spend about 500 to 600. any feedback would be greatly appreciated!! thank you very much!!!!!

i say spend a lil bit of money on handling before you invest into speed. get a fstb, rsb and some lowering springs and then go straight for the Y pipe, hybrid style intake, catback, stage 2 clutch, etc

Yeah I agree with 95emeraldgxe. The single most noticeable mod on a Max is a nice drop to get rid of the 4x4 status. The day before I bought my Max I had already ordered my springs, struts and CAI. I'd say with $600 you could afford all those things. The AGX's go for $350 shipped, pair them up with Sprints for about $130. Thats only $480. You will still have some money towards the purchase of an intake.

500 to 600 bucks is easy to spend.
1. Front strut bar 25 bucks lately on Ebay
2. Cone intake and Short ram like say 125 total.
3. Y pipe - starts at like 160 -300ish.
So say we are at roughly 300 - 500 depending on what you go with. That will give you better handling and better performance. Start there.

Here you go. Start with this

Do a search for "Suspension questions answered SuDZ" The top link that will be maybe 10 pages long is something I puttogether a while back and has a ton of info. See if that helps you out.

save your money for a TURBO!!!

You start with $50 here... $200 there.. then it $1000 for rims and tires.. $800 for suspension.. $800 for VI,y-pipe,intake..

F that.. skip all of it and get a turbo

Info on the main board and the For Sale section

When people say stock here, they usually mean stock SE ride. If you go with any set of lowering springs, the ride will be firmer than your stock GLE ride. It's the price you pay for better handling.

That said.. KYB AGX struts and H&R, Eibach, or Maxspeed springs are generally the closest you'll get to a "stock" ride.

Good luck.

The bolt on guys dont really go through as much as the cost of a turbo unless you start running up rims etc. The ones who really run up the $$ is the audio guys. Sometimes over a grand for a deck then another 2 grand is speakers and another few hundred to a grand in amps or custom enclosures. Total up the bills you see over there and it goes insane.

It is a variable intake which when your racing you probably notice that the car seems to lose it's pull at aroun 5300 or so...well the VI allows you to have the pull all the way to redline. It makes the car feel so good. Just having the constant pull from start to finish. You can go here to get more info on it

Here's a link to my group deal the one unfortunate thing about the VI is it does take about 4-7 weeks to come in. But you can split it 50-50 so half to start and half due before it ships. But, I'll be doing this for a while so if your interested you can definitely shoot me an email and I'll be glad to respond.
http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?threadid=151928

Also, another guy who's name is Ian is also doing the VI you can look into his group deal if he is still doing it. Just search the group deal area and you can find his...but I think we are about the same price. We are both just trying to help Maxima owners parts to help improve the preformance of the Max.

mevi = middle eastern variable intake. its appearance period looks funky to me

besides, i think the best combo for a good drop/ride would be eibach/kyb.. ride is close to stock but it isn't too low. you'd appreciate this if you were driving in city areas and have a body kit. gl on your new max..

I assume you are talking about KYB AGX shocks.. You would NOT appreciate this combo if you are driving in a city with rough roads. The "stiffness to drop ratio" of eibach springs with AGX shocks is very high, meaning you don't get a lot of drop, but get more stiffness and better handling of course. The ride would not be anywhere near stock ride quality.

If you want the closest ride quality to stock, with a decent drop, consider H&R springs with either KYB GR2 or AGX shocks, AGX's will give you a stiffer ride but will last longer because they were made to work with lowering springs, while GR2's are stock replacements but are much softer than AGXs.

Where can I order some AGX'z for 350 shipped? That's the best price I heard so far. I remember there was a thread about Nick Brauer selling AGX for 350?

I drive in the city where they refuse to fix potholes, what springs do you recommend besides the H & R for rough roads and potholes? I heard someone talk about sprints.

Yeah, $7000, and for what? I mean, your car doesn't look that different from stock. Apart from a few stickers Mr. Bond, and some knock off rims with MOMO chiseled into them, your car is pretty much stock...

booooring...

Thats exactly who I got them from. I got them from Nick in April. I saw him selling them on Ebay a while back. Give it a shot...or do a search in the group deal forum. I saw him selling them on Ebay for $320+18shipping which is pretty much the same as $350....except if you call Nick directly theres no wait time for the auction to close.

madd newbie here...sorry...but thanx for ur help!!! peace!

I'll be selling these as long as there is any interest in them...definitely a few more month. Yeah it is a straight bolt up to your intake manifold. All that is required is an vacuum canister (which stores vacuum pressure to open up the VI) RPM switch (tell the VI when to turn on), dawes device (which turns on when the RPM switch sends the signal and allows the vacuum pressure to switch over and open the VI). It might sound a little complicated but it is really easy to do. Depends on the mods on the car...for me I got 12HP peak and from 5200RPM-7000RPM the average torque and HP gain is about 20 at the wheels. Here is just a little spread sheet that xxhypexx put up for me and the dynos I did, so you can compare the VI when it is open and closed. The 1st 2 were just runs one with it closed all the time and one with it fully open. Then doing test runs on when it should open. Hope that helps. http://www.vanillaice.com/webmasters/hype/mrc/mrcVI.xls

good choice on the gauges, i have the same ones except i dont have the oil one. Did you get the gsensor for the rsm? I still cant find a good place to mount it. I always get weird readings like 378ps when my car is NA.

haha if you want to hate your car completely, get sprints and drive with them over some pothole-ridden roads.

i think H&R's or maybe Maxspeeds are your best bet, although I'm not too sure about Maxspeeds.
