Have any of you had this happen? When I go to my car, 1996 Se 5-spd, in the morning turn it on and take off the parking brake, the red "brake" light stays on. The wierd thing is that it turns off after the car is driven for a while. the only thing I can think of is that the brake fluid is a tad too low and when the warm engine expands it, it untrips the sensor. Does the light even have anything to do with that sensor? Or what else could it be?

thanks in advance.

The connection on the break could ber loose. When the brake is released it makes a connection and turns off the light, when it is pulled up, the connection is broken and the light comes on....it could be loose or dirty....it happened in my old mustang....when i shook the brake when it was down and the light was on the light would go off after i shook it a little....i don't know if there is anything more to it, like a sensor or anything. I'd make sure everything is tight first. Hope this helps.

The brake warning light serves two purposes.
1) Handbrake is applied.
2) Brake fluid reservoir is low.

Make sure the handbrake has been fully released.

Check you brake fluid reservoir and replenish as necessary.
