Switched from generic 3" cone filter to hybrid PR CAI, was disappointed...

I had the generic 3" cone filter ($20) for a while which connected to the MAF, while everything was stock ... it was supposed to be there temporarily until I got a real intake. So i decided to get the pr cai.....I installed it today as a hybrid (no lowerpipe)....got in the car and i guess was expecting much more.

The sound difference was very minor between the cone filter and the HYBRID PR CAI. Also performance wise I didn't feel a change when I would step on the gas, at least i think i didn't.

Is there really a difference in performance between the 3" cone filter that ran all stock pipes except the maxima filter itself compared to a PR hybrid which ran its own mid pipe from throttle body to MAF to filter??

have u reset ur ECU...i'm not sure if that matters.

but there should definitely be a difference btwn jus a cone, and a hybrid...i have just a cone on my car and my bro's I30 has a hybrid setup, the hybrid pulls harder on top end, and it's noticeably louder

Might be that your not getting the full potential of your intake since you still all stock restrictive exhaust.

maybe? But i thought intake didn't really depend so much on the exhaust parts, since its far away.

If i put in a High flow Cat and all my exhaust was stock, then i'd agree, that i would need to add a cat-back exhaust / ypipe to get that full potential of it.

what do u think?

Think if it as "what goes in must come out"

Get a ypipe for sure. A full cat back is not necessary, but it would be nice to have. The ypipe yields the most gains. Maybe an upper tube and a pop charger with velocity stack like the JWT or Stillen will perform a little better.

so now your car was sucking a bit more air, you need to free flow your exhaust. You need a Y pipe(best mod for the money) catback exhaust system. That hybrid stuff is only good for the highway.
