One way to cut the prices down to almost half would be to get it done at your local technical HS. The work is usually just as good as a regular garage since they are being graded on it and have teachers with sometimes over 20 years of experience guiding them. Plus (I know this is the case in MA) since they are not being paid for labor the school can not charge it. So all you pay for isthe parts, ie the paint. So where a garage is gonna rack up the hours on labor you can save quite a few bucks here. Sometimes it takes a bit longer but if you drop it off and have to wait a week or two but save a couple hundred it could be well worth it.

He waited about a week longer than the other kid but to save almost two thousand dollars a week is not too crazy.

i only know of one high school that has a shop on premises.. but how do I get my car worked on by them? Do you just go there and ask if they need cars to be worked on?
also,
what if they f- it up or drive it or something?
i don't want to have anything screwed up by dummy high school kids
I was told it can run 300-600$ to paint the whole kit

Like I said, messing it up is not really common they have teachers there that overlook every detail with more experience sometimes in two teachers than a whole autobody shop. The teachers are not like "Now kids I am putting my job on the line and all but go ahead and beat on the car for me. I dont need to pay the bills anyhow."
As far as getting on the list it depends. Some schools are always looking for people to have the cars done so they can give the kids more real life experiences and some schools have a waiting list. But for something like a body kit that might only takea day or two for them they might be able to bump you up higher on the list if there is one. I know that within twenty minutes of me there are about 4 schools that have shops, maybe there are more around you than you realize.

Look for a vocational school in your area. Like the one I went to HS at had everything from Culinary to auto body to machine shops and electronics. Anything you can think of. Regular HS's might be harder to find one with a good setup.

i'll definately look into it
There have to be some in NYC.
one of my freinds put his supra in to one of these highschools' shops and had a bunch of stuff stolen from including only ONE of his two turbos, stero, and some hoses out of the engine bay! so i dont trust them anymore. Just be careful.
