white smoke/bad idle

i've read that it's a coolant leak on here on a few threads and have been told by a few it's a sign of running rich. anyone mind to clarify? also, is there any good way to figure out where i'd have a coolant leak, or would it automatically be a bad head gasket? in which case, i reallllly don't wanna go through that ordeal.... btw, as far as engine condition, my car runs fine while driving, but just has a crappy and lopey idle with some thick, stinky, white smoke coming out the exhaust.

could be a blown headgasket... if the smoke is white... and lumpy idle... and i have some experience with MKIII supra's, thats the blown head gasket(s) symptoms.

i just cleaned out my intake manifold, so maybe i just got my lines switched up somewhere. on our cars, there are 3 copperish tubes that run underneath the throttle body, and each has a hose the come off of it. well, i'm trying to figure out if somehow i might've mismatched them. i'm not worried about the back one necessarily
but could someone tell me which hose the middle tube goes to, and the front one. my main concern is the front copper tube and it's hose, see if it's the one that plugs into the far side of the air intake tubing between the maf sensor and the tb. the middle one, is what i have connected with a hose to a little copper tubing that comes off the top of the tb. if anyone can help me out here, that'd be great. teaches me to think i easily remember where everything goes....

White smoke = coolant. NOT GOOD usually indicates a blown head gasket.

Head gaskets usually blow because of warped heads due to excessive heat.
