Why doesn't anyone want Don's Maxima?
Why doesn't anyone want Don's Maxima?
Just seems weird to me. There's a lot of people out there that don't mind owning "pre-built" cars. It's almost worth it just for the mods! It's sitting at $6850 with 21 hours left and no bidders.
Does somebody know something I don't?

I'm gonna make Don an offer he can't refuse.

Just purely speculating, but everyone loves a 12 second car if it is theirs. Most aren't comfortable taking over someone's ride that has already been tested at the limits......a lack of a challenge.

I agree, but how many people know the in's and out's of NOS? and if they do, why wouldn't they just buy another maxima, pay $1500 worth of NOS & mods, and run nearly the same times.
The crowd he's trying to see it to are mostly the F&F people who're like "WOW IF YOU RUN NOS YOU'LL BLOW UP YOUR CAR."
I'd buy it if it was in Canada hehe.

I think the specific people that want to buy a maxima with the idea of a unique project car in mind wouldn't want a pre-built car like that as Bill stated. Not too many people want to start off with a pure project car from where Don's car is right now.
If it's not a pure project car, it seems the other type of people that mod maximas have their max as a daily driver, and are concerned as much about reliability as they are performance. Even with Don's skill, no amount of reasoning will make a lot of the people in this category want to think that car has no possible reliability issues. I don't know about you, but I can always find a reason to be a little paranoid about a car's reliability, whether it be wondering/finding out about the previous life of a used car, or pondering how those first 25 miles on the odometer of a new car were put on it, exactly.
Wondering about things like this on a daily driver is enough for me...knowing someone stressed a max harder than most ever were, many times over, isn't really comforting, no matter who did the work.
Selling a project car doesn't seem like a very easy process to me, whether it be a go or show project. The easiest ones to get rid of are the rare cars that enthusiasts just can't go pick up and start with whenever they want.
I think before you start a project, you have to think about how it will probably end. With a max, I'd think maybe that'd come down to removing all/almost all mods and selling the car as close to stock as possible, selling mods separately. Or driving the thing into the ground.
Or find that high school kid who's parents have an open, non-discriminating wallet. There's always that guy out there.

I'd just hate to see a car like this fall into the hands of someone who doesn't know what they're doing and they end up tearing it up. I couldn't part with my car (I thought about this last night when I saw the price for Don's) due to all the time and effort I've put into it, but I would love to get my hands on that car. My wife told me last night that a 3rd car payment is totally out!
Honestly, if I had the money, I would buy it.
I bet Don will have to give a 5 hour training session to whomever buys the thing so they will know how to operate the programmable, ECU controlled N2O.
It's the ultimate sleeper.

Man if I had the money I would take it too. I graduate in December, but I will then be saving for TURBO =)
If he sells his rims/tires/nos kit for $3000, will he then sell his car for $3000 less off the current price? $3850 would be awesome.
I just hope someone buys it from our ORG.

maybe if it still had his sick paint job on it..
anyhoo. anyone who gets it will know its a 100k motor that was squeezed on. eh.
but for 100k for a 95, that's askin for alot of money.
my GXE kbbvalue is $9k
KBB for his GXE should be around $5k.

I'm trying to find someone who just wants the car.
Someone who isn't at all interested in racing. I'd help them on the cost of the car, just let me have it for a week and take all the racing stuff off and they'd still have a nice '95 Max to drive. No such luck though.

As long as the nitrous is being used CORRECTLY it will put minimal extra wear on the motor.

Not true at all. I did an oil analysis on my motor before and after 10 bottle of Nitrous. The wear numbers were nearly identical. Check out Bill's oil analysis sticky if you don't believe me.

The myths that it is bad for your engine are only something people say but usually can not prove.

A myth spawned by ignorance.
Every person I told about this car was really interested until the word "NOS" came out of my mouth. Then their eyes would glaze over and they would no longer listen to any reason.
No amount of explaining could show them it's not bad if used correctly. Oh well.
