exhaust backfire or detonation?

On the highway today I was messing around with a stupid ricey Honda Del Sol. As I let off after I put a whole bunch of car lengths on the Del Sol, I heard what sounded to be either an exhaust backfire or detonation. I'm not sure what it was. I didn't look at my gauges because I had to keep my eyes on the road. I never heard what a detonation sounds like, but I have heard an exhaust backfire(on my car actually)more than a few times. Any ideas in the difference of sound? I had OD off when I stomp on the gas, when I let off, I got that sound. When I let off, I was a bit pass 100mph. That scared me because I don't know what it was. I quickly turn OD back on. I think I should now just leave OD on at all times just in case. I'm not any slower with OD on anyway, so not much difference in my case. Ideas?

Btw, I tightened up the belt a bit more and close down the BOV to about 5 threads left(hex nut off). BOV still blows though, so that's good. Anyway, don't know which of those that made the difference, but I'm getting 9psi right now. I have the V1 SC with the 3.125 pulley. If I could run a 14.1 at 98mph with only 8psi, would 1 psi make much difference? Would that be good enough for me to hit high 13s?

I say backfire as you don't usually get det when off the gas. My theory is you backed off too fast and you were suddenly off boost. But your FPR was still sending the injectors higher PF(more gas) and you got a rich condition off boost. Maybe that gas got ignited by the cat and sent a backfire though the exhaust.

I think you're right. I did let off pretty quickly. No harm though right?

"Probably" not. As long as you don't back fire often. It's hard on your cat. Also running rich is also hard on your cat. It heats the cat up too much. I think I ruined my RT cat by running it rich. It's not clogged but I piece broke off inside and it rattling around in there now.

I've been looking into this:

Water Injection

I was thinking about this, but w/ only the stock pulley I don't think I need it. You might want to consider it. It's suppose to reduce/eliminate Detonation

I don't think I have a problem running rich. I think I'm running lean though. Lean = high EGT readings right?
