Small air duct lower part of front bumper

What is this "scoop" for? Its on the drivers side lower portion of the front bumper.

I tried to follow it to see where it went but it looks like it ends near the middle of the engine on the bottom.

Anyone know what its purpose is???

If you look in the lower drivers side section of the front bumper opening you will see it. Its an air intake of some sort..... This is on a 96 GLE by the way.......
Thanks

It's wierd. If you get under the car and follow the duct...it just ends. It doesnt blow on anything.

I know exactly what you're talking about and I believe it's for taking in air to the stock airbox that is removed with any aftermarket intake. I wondered about that when I installed my pop charger. I thought to myself, "Hmmm, seems like the Maxima was getting colder air before with the stock setup????" I could be totally wrong here, but that's what I think that intake is for.

So you know what i am talking about??

The reason i am asking this mainly is because I installed some aftermarket driving lights and on the drivers side it is partially blocking the duct........

I thought that was a lower air intake.

When I took apart my stock intake last time, the tubing from the filter box split in two as you moved closer to the front of the car. One goes to the upper intake and the other goes down under the battery. I assumed the lower tube eventually went to that lower intake in the bumper.

I think this directs cool air to the Tranny! Not sure about that though.

I think it's so that when water get into the main duct it will run out the bottom of the car, instead of into the airbox. Not sure exactly what you are talking about thgough.

My car doesn't have one (95 se) but I've seen it on other Maxes. I think it may be to help cool the tranny (like someone suggested) or create an air flow to route some of the air from the engine compartment. If I had one I would connect a tube to the end and route it up towards my Stillen cone.

I know, I know

First the intake snorkel does split in two the farther you follow it, but the bottom pipe that leads under the battery is to the resinator box that makes the intake quiet. I just ran a 3 inch pipe that is connected to a 4 inch opening under the car from this extra source. It does take full advantage of the Y-pipe as it pulls harder past 4500.
Anyway back to the original post, I had to take off the bottom portion that your talking about to cut a whole for the intake. This leads like others said to the transmission, I would make sure it's not blocked.

could it be for aerodynamics?

it's probably the transmission thing others mentioned.what did you look in the haynes manual? maybe they talk about it at some point and say what it is...
