ok, i have some Xmas money and i'm all excited to toss some mods on my max. i was looking at induction systems and i'm not sure which type i want. I was looking at catman. anyway, i like how the CAI takes if from the outside, where is the filter element on this application. is there a HP difference between the two? I drive my car to college and back, about three hours every couple of weeks, i drive through snow, rain, and nice weather too(though not as often!) would putting either of these systems on be a problem? obviously the pop charger will be less susepable to water right? thanks so much guys

Well........

IMO CAI will produce more power over Pop, but there have been some debates on whether this is entirely true!! personally I'd go for a CAI, and don't worry about the wheather you'd have to be driving thorugh water up to door sill to the top of the fender well(since thats where the intake filter is positioned). but remember, whos gonna be driving through a flood at WOT!?(lol) get the CAI!!!!!

just to give you an idea heres a pic of shameful quality of the filter placement with the CAI. With the inner guard lining back in place its fairly well protected from water etc.
I've never driven through snow but have driven through some real hard rain with shallow standing water and not had a prob.

Has anyone tried making a ram air device for the CAI setup? there's plenty of space down in the wheel well. all it takes is a trip to Home Depot and about 30 min to bend/cut some aluminum sheet metal to make a ram air scoop.

hmm...that pic looks mighty familiar ...by the looks of it yours has the same issue as mine...the filter is basically up against the inner wall...i will be in the process of taking the piping out to clean out my TB and make the hole for the filter a little bit nicer...i may build a custom bracket to force the piping/filter more toward the outside...

oh wow, don't your tires throw all kinds of dirt and grime onto the filter?

well hey, along with skymax's I used your pic's as a guide so looks like I followed them perfectly
yep mines a snug fit too, it needs the template hole made a little larger on the far side perhaps, a bracket would be ideal.

The air scoop would make a good project. Something quick to remove/replace when wanted and not visable to the casual observer. My only concern would be wind noise inside the guard itself at speed and the fact its dusty around my work. I'd like one on weekend's though.

And flyry the filter is protected by the factory plastic lining. In the pic the linings bent back to allow access when fitting.
