Ripping out the factory stereo

Please forgive me in advance for my stupid newbie questions. The last time I got inspired to replace a car stereo was 17 years ago on a 1980 Pontiac Grand Safari Station Wagon. Dashboards were simpler then, and radios were held in by two nuts under the *****...

Anyway, I'd like to replace the factory cassette stereo on my 2K GXE with a new CD player (probably an Alpine). Any advice on how to take apart my dashboard to get at the radio? Do I have to rip out everything including the console? Someone got pictures? Can I download/buy a guide somewhere? I have a 5-speed if it matters.

If everything goes well, be on the lookout for my future questions on how to get at the front and rear door speakers.

www.crutchfield.com It will provide you with free instructions, and a kit and wiring harness if needed, altough some people think the prices are a bit high.

Check this link out...

Here is a good write-up of how to remove the Bose stereo:

When you are pulling out the vents above the radio pull up and firm. They were a b*itch the first time I did it. Now I can take the thing apart with my eye's closed.
