Pick a car...fellow Maxima ORGer needs help

Hey,

I recently completely cleaned out, and had my garage re-tiled and now I'm possibly thinking about purchasing a project car. I want something with a nice starting base that isn't too pricey. YES, I am willing to go American on this one. I'm looking to keep the price fairly modest. Any suggestions or opinions are appreciated. Thanks.

Early 70's 240Z with the L28 engine swap, they had some with stock turbo's as well. Parts are still readily available and can be found and has acool style and good engine power.

If you want a project car that'll fly, pick up a tired old late 80s, early 90s 240sx and throw a SR20DET in it. SCC did a swap for under 5k including purchase of the car.

do this...best of both worlds...70's 240 with Chevy 350 swap, they have sites that sell the mounting kits and all that mess!!

and I don't recall Nissan/Datsun making any L28s with stock turbos

Yeah but the 350 and its performance parts get more expensive. I mean You can do it the way I said and get to the 350HP mark for under 3k, including the car. Some crate 350's cost you that alone.

yeah, the L28 is common...I was just suggesting the 350 swap. but to reach 350hp on an L28 will cost about the same as buying a $4k 320hp crate motor. the L28 will have to be rebuilt to hold the power to begin with and to even come close to 350 it'll have to be TC'd...thus the price comes to about the same. 350 performance parts expensive?? ...SB Chevy parts come a dime a dozen!

i'm workin' on getting a mid 80's monte carlo SS for my project car.
they're easy to find and are a blast to work on. plus they're very cheap to pickup. just watchout for the frames on them.
i know a guy who pushed back the firewall in his and dumped in a v12 jag engine. SWEEEEEET!!!
just a suggestion.

Yeah, when I say "I had my garage tiled," I mean that I tiled it myself, lol. It was actually really easy. It's only a one car garage, so it's pretty much rectangular, and then it has a platform to the left that the washing machine and dryer sit on, and the door that leads into the house. We moved everything into the spare bedroom; I work slow, so it took me a total of about 3 weeks, and it was pretty cheap. Everything is pretty solid, so I don't anticipate cracking. Sorry this was OT, but I'm pretty proud of myself
