New Cams and Brakes

I just found out I need another vacuum cannister for the brakes because the new JWT cam causes a drop in vacuum for the power assist at lower speeds! I picked it up at Summit for $39.95 and it comes with its own check valve. I also ordered the gauge to monitor the amount of vacuum. The gauge only costs $11.00.
I felt a loss of braking power since the engine rebuild and couldn't figure out the cause. Today I called Infiniti of Scottsdale parts and Jeff said the master cylinder and vacuum parts almost never go bad and then he asked didn't you get new cams? When I said yes he told me it had to be a vacuum problem and he was right. I didn't think the cams were radical enough to cause this problem. Go figure!!

I have a question do you do all the installations yourself. I see yuu post here with all the mods you get but do you install them yourself?

It depends on what is being installed. When I need a lift or the work is too heavy I go to my friends garage and work on the car with them. Other smaller stuff I do in my garage.

so what's the benefit of the new vacuum canister? larger, smaller, are you using it in addition to the OE one, or replacing it?

Just curious as to how it'll make the brakes work better with less vacuum in the engine....

The vacuum canister stores vacuum when the engine is making it (above idle) so it is available when it is needed (at idle). Kind of like a battery except it stores vacuum instead of electricity. The brakes work off the vacuum in the canister.

I am not sure if it replaces one or not though. I think a stock engine makes plenty of vacuum at idle so it may not need a vacuum canister but I could be wrong.
