Drag racing and staying COOL
I was at the track, and it was around 50 degrees, which is nice and cool. I was wondering where the car would perform best in reference to the temperature gauge. Usually my car is right in the middle of H and C.

Put the ice on your intake manifold.
My comment about the water temp was just to illustrate that the temp guage doesn't tell you how hot the engine is, its how hot the water is. There's a correlation, but it's not direct.
The cooler the better, but at least make sure it's warm enough that the oil is up to temp. In a normal track day, it's probably good to have your car running for about a minute before doing your burnout or run, unless you've let your car sit not running for like 3 hours, in which case you'd want to get it a little warmer.

I've tried the ice thing, and found that it really doesn't help that much...plus its a pain to deal with the bag.
I also don't think that the water temp matter that much regarding times. I always make sure my car is up to temp. If you that worried about keeping your water temps down, you can wire a switch to turn your fans on when the car is off.
