Snap, crackle, and pop

Now that the weather has gotten colder in the mornings, I'm getting a lot of ticks and pops from the dash area when hitting very small bumps and dips in the road with my 02 SE. Its almost a continuous barrage of sounds that seems to be coming from the attractive and rich-looking hard plastic used on the vents and the head unit of the stereo, (I can press on these areas and get similar sounds) but don't seem to get better as the cabin heats up.

Are these common in this car and has anyone had any success in quieting them down?

I think it's just the cold weather. My car did that in the winter and then I didn't hear it in the winter. You can take it in for a TSB maybe if you really wanted to.

My interior have been very solid on my 02 GLE. Getting the stereo installed was horrible because the panels were put in so well. Even after the panels were put back in I've only had 1 occurance of creaking which I fixed.

my interior squeaks like hell when its cold out. its really really annoying lol. It got much worse after getting my system installed too. O well....the cold weather seems to do something to the dash making it squeak. i dunno....

Yup, I've got them, too. The weird thing is that they are constantly changing. The noise I heard 3 days ago is gone, but replaced by a diffeent 'creak' sound. I have noticed, that overall, they are getting fewer.....maybe in a month or so they will disappear altogether?!?!? Prolly not, but it seems to be getting better.....

BTW...the Max is no different in this area than other cars I've owned. I've never had a car that didn't have dash noises!

Yep, got them too. I just turn up the volume of the stereo a bit more...

seriously?

the plastic expands & contracts with the weather, and the joints press against each other. it happens inside airplanes, and the space shuttle. i don't think they can fix it in a Maxima... LOL

some people have found that dynamatting seals some of the rattles. you might also try putting rubber gaskets/washers anywhere the plastic is screwed or bolted to the metal.

gimmetorq is right - turn up the music!

Check the stickies....there are a bunch of TSB's for these noises, if you want to go that route. They would be covered under the warranty.

My 03 SE have the same problem whenever it traveled over a bump or rough surfaces. No such problem when the weather is over 40 degrees and no such problem with my 87 SE and 91 GXE
