My brother-in-law has a 2000 Camaro V6 auto totally stock.
I have a 95 auto fully tuned with a POP charger and Trans-Go VB mod.

He thinks his car is fast. I want to instigate a race, but obviously not if I'm going to get beaten. Anyone here raced any new Firebird/Camaros with V6s?

It'll be a real good race, he may get you off the line, but you'll pull away at higher rpm's. The cars have really similar acceleration numbers if i remember correctly.

It WILL be close!!

Wow, that will be such a close race. Stock, a 2000 Camaro with the 3800 is good for a 0-60 of about 7.3 with the 5-speed. I'd go with high 7s given the GM auto is doing the shifting (vs low 8s for other trannies).
Your maxima can probably pull off a mid 7 0-60. maybe 7.3?
Anyway, I'd say the race would be a dead heat, stock vs stock. With your mods, and perhaps a proper brake torque (never driven an auto max with any authority - do they even need brake torquing or can they smoke the tires off the line?), you should be good for a car length or two.

I wish I could see the look on his face...no offense to the F-body though, I'm sad to see it go.

I raced my friend auto camero 98. Raced him twice and beat him both times. You should win unless they did some major power changes to the slomero in 2000. By the way my car is auto too.

Youll beat em easy! He will pull slightly at the beggining then after the tach gets to 4g, youll pass him well, that is the way it was when i raced a 99 5spd, i was really surprised, i also raded a 98 auto and beat him pretty bad, the max pulls really hard at the higher rpms and has a better shift, if you take her to 6.2k and then shift @ 6.5k, when you start 2nd you will be approx. 4.1k and the peak torque is @ 4 grand on a stock max so you will have no prob taking him after the max shifts!!!u should pull about 1/2 carlenght after your 1-2 shift! take em out man! Dont phukk w/ an SS though!!!!!!

If your shifting manually, listen to NmexMax. Don't wait too late to shift out of 1st into 2nd though, 6200 or 6300 is about right. By the time it changes gears you'll be at redline, and will be at higher RPM's in the nest gear...smart move. Do the same with 2nd to 3rd.

You have to be very quick about that 1-2 shift though, you don't want to hit your rev limiter.

Uhh

Am I missing something here about manually shifting the auto, or does the Maxima's A/T not run to redline at WOT?

Nope...I think most stock Max Auto's shift just above 6k.

When I raced the camero I left the max in drive both races. My friend in his camero tried both drive and shifting and still lost both times. You'll beat him.
