Removing Cam Sprockets
Removing Cam Sprockets
I just got the crank pulley and timing belt off of my vg33e, and now I have to take the cam sprockets off. When I try to loosen the bolt on the sprocket, everything moves. I'm afraid of turning the sprocket, but I see no way to secure it. I have a 91 vg30e fsm, and it shows some tool fitting just after the bolt. The 33e sprocket has no place for such a tool to go. Does anyone have an idea of how to loosen the bolt, or will I just have to go spring for a vg33e manual? Any ideas would be appreciated.
Re: Removing Cam Sprockets
Behind the cam sprocket there should be a place to fit a wrench to. When I did the cam swap in my se-r, I needed a 1in open end wrench to hold the cam in place. IIRC I used vice grips on my VG, so you can use either a cresent/open end wrench or vise grip on this part. If you look at the cam in this area, 2 sides should be near flat.

Jeff- I thought the vg30e would be close enough
