Belt Squeal Question

Ok I had a belt replaced on my max recently and its been squealing every since. The mechanic adjusted it saying that it should be fine but it still does it. It does it mostly when Iturn the wheel hard and it does it REALLY bad when the car is cold. Now this is just my opinion but the mechanic telling me to just tighten it up cause its too loose but it makes sense to me the the belt is actually too TIGHT. Think about it, it does it badly when its cold meaning the belt is tighter when its cold so it makes the noise but when the car warms up it doesnt do it at all. Just my guess but i think that it might actually be too tight what do u think??

Re: Belt Squeal Question

If the belt is new and squeling, it's loose. If you can flip the belt over with your hand pretty easily, then it's loose. Tighten it first and see how much it helps.

if it squeals when you are turning then it sounds like the power steering belt. Mine use to do that too when you turn all the way to the left or right! you should also check your power steering fluid. Make sure theres enough there.
