Possessed gas gauge

I was driving to work today when I noticed my gas gauge went from the 1/4 mark down from "F" to "E". Now I just filled up yesterday and I wasn't driving erratic, I was driving more like an old man. This is the second time this happened to me, does anyone know what causes this and how to fix it. I really don't want to be getting wrong gas readings. Oh yeah and now the gauge reads half a tank. I only went less than 12miles for the whole day. what the h--l is going on?

I had the same problem in my 93 Pathfinder. the problem is that you need a new gas gauge. It ran me $190 and i don't know how much it will cost for a maxima.

Try to fill the tank full again. It might not be your gauge the floater in the tank might be getting stuck. Filling it might fix it but you never know if it doesnt work then look at it to be the gauge.

We have had problems with our gauge (not to this extent) ever since the fuel pump was replaced. Then I changed the fuel filter last month, and now the fuel gauge works.

I dont get it.

Yeah, it used to happen to me at the beginning of the year, but after I got my car back from having the transmission rebuilt, it hasn't done it since. Also, since I've gotten it back, my clock works too. Go figure...
