Anyone need a motor from a 1990?

Tranmission out according to Nissan of Daytona Beach. THey found a used one 78k miles for $1600 and want $500 to put it in. Only paid $2500 for car. Thinking about donating the car to the DBCC ( the local community college) where they have a Nissan pro cap program for budding Nissan Mechanics. Wondering if anyone needs a motor in Florida area and what it might be worth. I'll sell the whole car for someone to part out.

I tried to pass a couple cars on a 2 lane hwy (hwy 40 heading toward Ocala). Next thing I know I'm not getting power but the engine is running and responding to the throttle. Pulled over and I know the linkage is working since I could start it in park and neutral but not in a gear.

Wondering if the dealer might be pulling a fast one cause I had to get something from it today and it seemed like it had not been moved from where the tow truck parked it.

they are riiping you off...$2k to install a used tranny is BS. you should only pay $2k if it is a full rebuild...a good used tranny can be had for as low as $500 and a quality low mialage one for $750-800(Phoenix Hard Parts). install $4-500...total shouldn't run more than ~$1500 or so. don't go with Nissan, idependent tranny shops and standard repair shops are the way to go. but if you aren't planning on fixing it, then just go the route you had planned.

Get a 2nd and 3rd opinion without telling them what the dealer said.
