Pop off the real "Bose" cover, use screwdriver to remove Bose sub. Replace cover.

Then buy a powered Bazooka with a corresponding slave unit (8" or 10") or a Basslink. Have a shop install it for you using your Bose Amp as a source.

Voila! It will sound great, at least mine does with Bazookas. You have to take out the Bose sub to let the bass out (especially with leather), plus it rattles too much.

This is probably the most cost effective measure for you. Good luck.

Yeah, with that you're definetly drowning out the stock equip. You probably need to upgrade the rest of the speakers and use an external amp. I wouldn't want to replace the headunit. (I like the stealth look) Although there's one guy who has his radio (aftermarket) hidden behind his factory face plate.

I don't think you can amp the existing bose speakers. They run at a different impedance and will not work with a standard amp. Conversly, the Bose amp will not drive after market speakers. Unfortunatly, you're in the same boat I am.

I just wanted some better mid bass to compliment my JL subs in the trunk now I find that I'm gonna spend about $1,000 for it (JL 300/4 amp, wires, speakers).

You don't need to go that crazy, but if you've got 3 W6s in the trunk you had better!

As far as speakers, check the audio forum. People tend to like MB Quarts (I hate them - to harsh), Diamond Audio, Focals, and I like the Rockford Fosgates (although I haven't heard anyone else who likes them). The RFs are MUCH cheaper than the others, but you really have to listen to a bunch of speakers to find the one that suits you.
