My max has a problem at very low speed (<5mph)or when stops at a light. The tachometer could jump between 1100rpm down to 400rpm and the whole car is shaking! I am afaid it will expire some time! THis only happens when gas pedal is not presssed. Once I step on the gas, every thing looks fine. I also have a check list, pleas pick what you think it is most likely:

1. idle speed setting messed up. ( Please tell me how to reset.)
2. The rubber pipe between air filter box and intake manifold is cracked.
3. Bad sensor?
4. EGR/PCV valve?


This problem has been so annoying that I want to trade it in for a new Acura TL if prob not fixed. Which gen of max do you think is comparable to 2003 TL performance-wise?

 

i would check the pcv. mine is bad and does that but i'm too lazy to go get it and fix it. it's only like 2 dollars at autozone.

 

I had a broken/missing shift cable bushing and it caused similar symtoms, the idle would jump around when my foot was off the gas and the idle would race when I was at a stop. There are two of them, ones located at the tranny where the cable meets the tranny, and there is another that is above the catalytic convertor a heat sheild needs to be removed in order to get at it.

- if that crack lets air into the car ... it should stall-out.. GET A CAI now..

its probably a vacume hose leak, i have a minor version of that rightnow too.. i gota fix it
