Autos w/ spray and slicks

Just made an observation. Of course there's JIME with his 13.1 on slicks with an auto, and now there's David6601: also ran a 13.1. Good job guys. Anyone notice that most of the quickest maximas are actually automatics? JIME, david6601, ferhan, stevechicagoSC, don in texas.

Of course there are fast manuals out there too, Mardigras and the turbo guys, but I'd say the autos are representing themselves pretty well.

I think it has to do with the fact that most 5-speed owners don't drive well at the track. I know from personal expierence, I am a good driver in everyday situations, but when it came time to run the 1/4 mile I kept missing gears. I think the driver is what hold back the manual tranny owners in general.

The automagics have one less shift to make. That can end up making a big difference at very high power levels. And when you have the huge powerbands that boost/spray gives you, you don't necessarily need the close ratios that you get on the 5spd.

If the Auto 2k2's had 5 gears, we'd be even with the sticks stock for stock. I just saw a older style Hyundai Tiburon with 630whp that ran high 10's in the 1/4. I'm going to be with a smile on my face

i think the common demoninator(sp) is the slicks.

autos i guess with the slicks can really lay into it off the line its amazing how many fast autos there are.

mardi your 13 flat was on street tires right ? so you think you could have pulled 12s with your slicks?

With out a doubt! I have pulled 1.9xx 60's with the slicks. If you equate that in to the 13.0 run then a 12.8xx would have resulted. However talk is cheep so I'm still in the hunt for 12's.

Yea, I think they are all closed in MD now I got a little more tweeking to do before next season anyways. With the slicks, 14psi, full 3" exhaust and a touch of juice on a nice cold sunlit day I'm hoping for mid 12's, but any 12 will do

Hopefulley you get there Marti, when I ran my 13.1 it was with wheel spin, so I am gonna go back to the track and hopefulley get it down some more.I still need to install my fpr and put my lsd on. Do you have a lsd or just the stock tranny? What size of slicks do you plan to run?Do you heat up the bottle? If not it should help you out also.

I am Quaife'd
I have a bottle heater, I dont plan on using more than a 40hp jet at ~950psi, I get a very big gain from that on top of the boost due to the intercooling effect.

MardiGrasMax butt the Heck out of here you don't even have an automatic. j/k

Get your butt out there and do the 12. I am just in the process of selling my auto and getting a 5 speed so I can prove that autos are better, but I may just find out the 5 speed is.

Regardless, lets just keep working towards going faster and working together, autos and 5 speeds.

Keep up the great work.

Jim

PS No smart *** comments from the peanut gallery either. IE about me driving a 5 speed, my first 3 cars were manual transmissions. This is only a one year experiment.
