Need help with winshield washer

Hello all,

I'm new to this forum (found it through Edmunds.com). I'm going to have to dig through many of the threads to see where some of you got those cool hop up stuff (ie grilles) to make the Max so sweet.

I have a question/need help with my windshield washer. When I pull back on the washer lever, the wipers work, but nothing comes out of the washer. Even after I filled it with the fluid, nothing happens. Does anyone know what the cause may be? I thought it might be a fuse, but I couldn't find a fuse that was specific to the washer fluid (found one for the wiper and it looked okay). BTW, I own '96 GXE.

Thanks in advance for help. I'm glad I found this forum - hopefully I can get some ideas from you to make my Max stand out a bit more (since not many fix'd up Maximas out there as compared to the Hondas & Acuras).

can you hear the pump motor working? if its working then your washer nozzels are probably clogged. try poking the holes with a needle and see if it works.

No, I don't hear anything when I pull the lever. If it's the pump, is it difficult for the not very mechanical person like me or would it be a dealer job? And how much would it be?

I was very worried

I thought for a minute you might be talking about the installation of neon windshield washer nozzles.

Nice car (year) welcome to the .org

A Hanes manual is your best friend at times like these. You can pick one up at any auto parts store.

I have never heard of this problem before, sorry I can't be of more help. When did it start?

I had this problem early last spring and it was the pump motor. Found that the pump was not making any noise and the fuse was good. At the time, I was told in order to replace the pump, I'll have to remove the passenger tire well and such. Well, instead I brought one from the the local nissan shop and had my mechanic replace it while I was at work. The pump is very inexpensive.

I had this problem last week. My problem turned out to be simple. I washed the car the day before, and a drop of water stayed inside the nozzle, which then froze overnight. The nozzles wouldn't spray because there was a little frozen droplet blocking the way. I dry those now if I am worried about freezing temps overnight.

It started about couple of weeks ago (or at least that's when I noticed it when we got the 1/2 inch rain here in So Cal). I'll try unclogging the nozzels just in case, but I doubt it's anything that white95max had - frozen water - very unlikely here in warm Los Angeles...thanks for the help on the pump. I'll take a look at it to see if it's something I can do.
