I got one for $265 shipped from ebay a month or so ago. That was the best price I have found. These seem to be good deal too. spend the $30 and get the hard wire kit too.

I got mine for $259 shipped from a legitimate retail outlet a year and a half ago.... I think you should be able to do much better than ebay... or at least for much less.

Mind letting me who what retail outlet you got it from?

With the eBay sale, he's in the same state as me, so I could probably pick it up and not have to pay the $14.95 shipping, but then I have to pay $21 in tax, so it's still $281, if he agrees to not charge shipping.

Yeah, I would have but it's been a while and I totally forgot. You can't go wrong with the 8500 though... has saved me MANY times.

I found the Escort Passport 8500 on one site for less than $299:

Carmedia1.com $259 + 15.40 shipping to Texas (varies by location), no tax.

sbhcorp.com claims they have a special on the 8500, but they have an unlisted price and you have to call to place the order.

Ya'll are getting ripped off

Do you know the wholesale price of a Passport 8500 is. It's under $199, how do I know this, because I work for Best Buy Part Time and I happened to have looked up the price for Employees. The price for employees is $199 and thats 5% over wholesale cost. Also at best buy, because I'm an Employee, I get Car Stereo equipment for about half the cost for the consumer which is quite a mark up. I recommend for anyone who is looking to hook up their car with stereo equipment to get a part time job at Best Buy because even though it doesn't pay that much, the benefits are great.

I used to work at Best Buy, but you make so little that you still can't afford to buy stuff, even at discount. A part time job would be nice, but I left under bad circumstances, so I doubt I could get a job there again .

Not if your a Technician or a Manager, hey even Mobile installation makes more than a sales person or a cashier. Plus if you work for a service center your making upwards of $40K a year and still entitled to a discount.

Two of my friends have gotten great prices from sbhcorp.com. It sounds shady but they arrived quickly. It is a business in New York. It has been over a year since I know anyone that has dealt with them but its worth a shot to call and see how much they are.
PS. Both friends that bought 8500's from them now have Valentine Ones.

I guess I'll be calling them Monday . There could be a lot of reasons that your friends switched to the V1s. Hopefully it's because they believe the hype, not because the Escort failed them .

Like jemartin said, there are some jobs at Best Buy that pay better than than most. I made $8 when I worked there years ago. I wasn't into car audio then, so I didn't take advantage of the employee discount for those products.

That is true, the Escort never failed them but we all really like the arrows.

The arrows sound cool. Last time I was in a car with a radar detector, we were on a road trip from Houston to Lake Charles, Louisiana. On the way home, the detector would go off and beep like crazy, and we'd be frantically looking all around us to find out where the cop was .

thats exactly why i'm torn between getting an 8500 and a V1. i currently own a bel 880 and the only problem i have it not knowing where the radar is coming from. its obnoxious when other detectors set mine off, then i'm stuck cruising at 65 in a 55 instead of my usual 80-85 in a 55..extends the time of my trip to and from school about 15 minutes each way when that happens.

Escort has a clause for distributors requiring them to sell at a certain price. If BB were to sell them retail for the sameprice employees get them for, BB's license to sell Escort products would be revoked.

Mike, can Mira Imports get a better price for the Escort 8500?
