Supersharge 2k1 or trade in for 2k3?

With good deals going on these days what would you do? If I were to trade in my 2k1 I would be taking a major hit on the trade in - like $5000 depending on what the dealer gives me for my max. Speaking of which, how much do the 2k1's go for trade in these days? It has about 26k miles. And what kind of deals are people getting for 2k3 base SE?

Oooor, should I just stick with my 2k1 max and supercharge it?

Thanks!

You will get raped on a trade. Do you have an SE? That car is worth about $14,000 if you trade it in.

I'm in the same boat w my 2k. They will rape you on trade-in. Believe me, RAPE YOU! I would go the Supercharged route. The car will probobly exceed your expectations and the capabilities of a 2003. Just my 2 cents.

S/C for sure.. too much of a hit to trade in .. base 6-spd SE can be had for $22K w/o HLSD .. plus tax, title.. too much cash...

S/C and you'll have the ultimate sleeper..

NADA guide says right at $17k for trade-in. Even the internet guide is at the same price.

I like my 2k3 but, just imagine the power of a Supercharger or Turbo!!

is your car a 5 speed?
is your car an SE?

if yes to both:
get the supercharger, your tranny is better than the new 6 speed (speaking from ownership experience) and then get red GLE tail lights, you'll even be a sleeper to fellow Maxima owners...they won't think you have a manual, and they reaaaaly won't think your pushing 250hp! not really on the red tail lights, but get the supercharger, and forget the 2k3...I bought mine for $28,000 and they trade in for $19,000 fully loaded like mine...well, I don't have the nav system...but otherwise loaded...w/6speed not auto...

anyway, I'm beginning to ramble...but get a nice SC...I wish I had done that with my 1998 SE...but hind sight is always 20/20..

What happens when the 2K3 gets boost? It's a vicious cycle that never ends!

Thanks for the advise guys! I guess I'll be going SC or turbo route. Although I do like 2k3's chisled look a little better than my 2k1 I think it is mostly the headlights that make 2k3 look more aggressive.

Thanks again!

boost is no fun with stock exhaust and it will raise ur EGT to the limit in a few seconds from rolling. Make sure ur car is preped for it.

SC will cost about 5000 if u are also buying y/cat-back/gauges.

also.....I would suggest to have ur car's handling ready for boost. stock handling/brake with SC will turn ur car into a wild horse without a leash. (from my own experience, yea...almost got killed)

I just recently traded my 2k1 w/auto for a 2k3 w/6spd, but of course the differences between them in power was ridiculous. So that was the ultimate factor for me, but I think if I would have owned a 5spd then I probably would have never traded. I say buy the supercharger.

Go SC that is the way I am going with my 2000 GXE...But I do agree with maxi-overdose that you have to set the car up for it, IE brakes, exhaust and handleing. You will have more fun thatn you nknow what to do with.

Hmm, I haven't thought about other things like exhaust, pipes, gauges etc that I should do. SC might cost me more since I am really not planning on doing anything to 2k3 max, maybe RSB.

Key words here are "not planning". Most of us don't plan to do anythingto our cars either, but then we get the car and mod fever hits. Before you know it your thinking of putting a supercharger on a 2k3 Maxima. I say again mod the 2k1 and be done with it. That's unless you've already hit new car fever; because we all know that once you've got a new car in your mind it's hard to get it out. Anyway good luck in your decision.

The one huge difference between s/c and a stock 02-03 is the reliability issue. With the 02-03 in 6-speed form you are capable of times that are similar to boosted 01's without the risk of non-warranty mechanical issues. I am always reading posts about boosting headaches, and personally I wouldn't have the time to tinker as much as some on this board, and would take the safer bet, especially if this is a daily driver. Also, if you think you are getting raped now on trade, try and trading in a heavily modded maxima and see where that gets you, lower value than stock despite the 5 grand you sunk into it. Take it from one who has lost tons of money on cars (I'm 26 and have owned 17 cars), the best move you can make is to stay in your car until you have payed it off, or have some substantial equity. If you can weather the "I want something different" storm for a few years, you are looking at having close to ten thousand in equity. With 10 grand down, you can move into a pretty substantial vehicle, for payments similar to what you have on your current car. I feel your pain, as I have a hard time lasting 9 mos with any ride, but by waiting you save a ton of headaches and money.

That is SOOOO true! I was never much into modding cars (other than the stereo) but I've done and am planning more with my Max. So far I've replaced side markers, high beams, fog lights, bulbs all around, I've got the RSB and FSTB in my basement, and will probably get a Frankencar intake.

I don't want to mess too much with the suspension as I bought the car because of the comfortable ride. Had I wanted to ride with the comfort of Fred Flintstone's solid rock tires I would have gotten a sports car

This .Org has cost me so much money!

getz, you're just like me, albeit I am not as "bad" as you (I've had 7 cars including current max and I am 27) I guess my problem is in settling. Like color for example. I wanted pearl white, but the dealer only had sterling mist. So I settled on sterling mist....

I agree with getz on the reliability issue and resale value with SC. Once I put that on, even if I revert to the original state, it will leave a mark on the car no matter how hard I try. That was why I was considering 2k3 max. New car, new warranty and get it right this time around - with sun roof, 6-speed, and pearl white. I bet it will be hard to find.

Thanks guys for your helpful advice and guidance

Sounds to me like you already have the NEW car fever and have made up your mind. Enjoy your NEW car.
On re-sale...you could always sell your car here on the org and get someone to relize what you have put into it. (just a thought)
Anyway, enjoy your NEW car. When are you getting it...ooops! you haven't relized that you are getting it yet, or have you?

Good luck with the new ride. Hopefully you can find what you are looking for. I am still enjoying the max after 15,000 miles, which is a pleasant suprise. The 6-speed is a blast, and it is a fantastic sleeper. My last car was a current generation 3-series, but the 2.5L inline 6 just didn't have enough grunt. Loads of style, but who wants a 35 grand car that gets worked at the stop light by a frigging maxima. Yup, that pretty much describes the situation that landed me into my 02 6-speed, getting destroyed by a mom and her car load of kids in her 00-01 GLE. Aaargh.
