2k2 Maxima to '95 300ZX TT. Crazy??

I have an "opportunity" to trade in the beloved max for something I've always wanted: the 300ZX TT. I've found a '95 with 28k miles (yes only 28,000) for under $20k. To boot it is a near break even deal when trading in my 2k2.

Has anyone done this and regretted it? Or done this and not regretted it?

For the most part the car (Z) fits my needs, so it doesn't seem crazy; but everyone I talk to thinks I'm nuts!

Less than 28000 miles for under 20K. I'd be all over that. Do you have any idea how hard it is to find a nice 300 TT with mile like that? Hell, if it were'nt a 95, it'd still be under warranty. Look at it that way.

didnt you just recently trade your max?

that is an awesome price for the car, so i would say go for it, but first consider, do you have kids? drive people around often, or have another car for winter or rain. the 2 seats will not do much if you tend to drive others around or have kids, and i wouldnt recomend thinking about driving it in the snow if you live in that type of area, so if your young and have another car for winter, or u dont get a winter, JUMP ON IT! but test drive first i drove my friends N/A 300zx and it wasnt even comparable to my max, altough u will have 2 turbos

It's hard to find a TT with that kind of mileage for any price! I do love my Max so, but I cannot keep both. I'm taking a pretty big hit on the maxima, but it has served me well for many months.

Even with the 28k miles the Z is still 8 years old, and as was mentioned older cars begin to have thier problems. I would get a 12month/12k mile warranty with the deal and this eases things greatly.

I'll be sure to let everyone know what happens; but I'm leaning towards the Z!

is dark green and beige leather what you want?

yes? get it!

no? uhh...time to rethink everything...

I'd take about any exterior color, but prefer black leather interior.

i dont know if anyone has said this yet, but why dont you just go for the 350Z? depending what options you want, for like 10k more than a 95 you can get a brand new 2003, thats what i would personally do

I would go for it. If you can afford it, and it is your dream car, go for it. Just make sure its mechanically perfect and the odo wasn't tampered with.

Even if you find you don't like it, you could sell it without going into loss (you might even make a profit).

300ZX-TT ARE DAMN hard to find in good condition for a good price. For an example, up here in Toronto, there are a few 300ZX-TT going for over $30K+!!

Well, I bought it.

Straight trade for my 2k2 SE, and we split the taxes and fees. I spent 3 days haggling and those were sleepless nights (wondering if the car would get taken away from me by another!).

NO regrets yet! Many thanks for the post.

Hey, at least you'd be going to a car that actually has potential to go fast and is actually fun to drive!

Do it, Do it! Your gonna love the switch and forget about your max, trust me. My friend in Frisco has one which is a limited edition preped by Stillen I think they only made 100. Lets just say everytime I get out of the car my neck is very soar you get thrown into the back of the seat and stay there.

value

The way I look at it is that the TT is a classic and will hold its value much better than the Max at that price. In 3 years that Max will be worth 14K and that TT will probably still be worth damn near what you paid for it. Those are rare so it has a little more class as well.

Just my .02, I only have an 00 SE Auto

I used to own a 91 300zx TT and it was the best car I've ever owned. It truly is a top notch sports car. It may not be the fastest, best handling or best braking but it is definitely aclose second in all of those categories. The one & only thing I didn't like about the car was the 4 wheel steering (way too sensitive) but you can eliminate that with the Stillen HICAS kit. I really love my O3 Max SE(and my previous '98 Max SE) but the 300ZX is still head and shoulders above in my mind ...if you can live with a 2 seater rear wheel drive (which I couldn't any longer. Good Luck with your choice.

i'd take a low mileage 96TT over a new 350z....well, I guess i'd have to drive them back to back...and really think about it...

but I've always loved the 90-96 model Z...
