i need new hood supports for my 96 max. nissan wants to much for the replacement ones. if any one can help me out with where to get some, hook me up.

 

I got these same ones from them before for like $45. I can see that price went up by much but still cheaper that the dealer which was asking for $180 each. Here is the link Hood Shocks

 

You can buy replacement ones from Autozone, Advance autoparts, Napa...etc. I got mine from Advance auto parts for ~$18 each with lifetime warranty. The ones on Ebay might be better quality.

 

I just replaced mine on Saturday morning. Bought 2 for $45 w/tax at my local autoparts store.

 

same here, i did mine last week, i got them from autozone for like $43 with tax wich is way better then the $95 each the dealer wants for them

 

If you want the cheapest price so far, Go to Advanced auto parts. I purchased them this evening for $34.98 a pair plus tax. The brand is: Strong Arm ;Gas charged lift supports model # 4524. Oh and it fits 96 maximas, thats what i have

 

advance AP has them for cheaper, i got mine for only $15 each. and i put them on myself

 

damn i gotta get mine replaced too. My 96 has a broken driverside hood shock. I'm so ****ed about that! well right now i'm using a hood stick lol.

 

I'm tired of using the vise grip to keep my hood open when I'm doing work under the hood. So advance has the cheapest pair eh? Am I getting what I paid for or are they very durable and stronger than my currently weak oem ones? Any warranty included?

 

just got mine today, seem identical to nissan but the long cylindrical bar is chrome instead of black. Seems to be good quality, receipt said limited quantity. Just a tip, the stock bolt is 12mm and the ones from autozone are 7/16". That should u take some time while searching for wrenches.

 

I use a wooden stick I found in my trunk to prop the hood up.

i used vice grips till i got mine fixed but i dont really just them much more then a piece of wood lol

 

Ben..the ones from Advance auto parts comes with lifetime warranty. I'm currently using them and they seem okay.

 

Oops, just reread the thread and noticed you already mentioned a lifetime warranty. I think I'll go pick up a set later this month, I'm too lazy and the vise grip is ghetto but is doing the job for now. Thanks.

 

These fit 99 models also. I just installed a pair on my 99 SE-L. The model 4524 struts do seem to be slightly thicker than the stock hood struts.
Thanks to this thread for saving me $100. 140 was the cheapest I could find nissan struts!!

 

If I get a new set of hood struts that will make the third pair for my 95. I'm getting tired of these crappy thing$ failing. I think I'm saving my money and either drilling a hole in the struts rod for a cotter pin or buying a pair of dedicated vice grips.

 

Which brand do you use??

 

A friend of mine works at an auto body shop and was getting me hood struts from Nissan for about $50 for 2. That was few years ago, then about a year ago he ordered me some knock-offs for about $30 for two. They all blow - literally. The stock ones that came w/ the car lasted about 5 years, the second pair lasted about 2 years, and this last set has lasted a little over a year. SO, I guess I need to change my original post; another set would make my 4th set. Maybe I should've gotten a middle east variable hood prop??
