Diamond in the rough

You know how I was skeptical of getting a connector for the Air regulator from the junk yard. Well, found a 1987 maxima that looked to be in process of a show car but never happened had the gold flake paint and all. Looked under the hood and checked the connector. Can ya say brand new. Looks like this guy just had his replaced before the car went to the junk yard. Looks like a gasket or two were blown.

Also found at that same junkyard near me a 1986 300zx turbo black still has the engine in it. I asked them about the engine they said they just got it in they dont know if it works or not. There was front end damage that looks to have caught the front fan and belts but thats it.

Jackpot! I can understand being skeptical about going to a junkyard, but what many people don't realize is parts on those cars were probably replaced before it ended up in a junkyard, and they are very decent shape. Of course your going to run into some crap parts, but remember, just because its in a junkyard doesn't mean that all the parts are junk.

But hunting through the mess can be an ordeal. I've found that some people keep their engine parts cleaner than their interior.

Yeah I've found one in a junkyard that was in great condition, I couldn't find anything wrong with it, maybe the tranny, the odometer was at 190k, and the engine looked good and the body was excellent, too bad it was gone the next week because I planned to take the stock rims + tires. My tires are crappy and worn, and the person that owned the car before seemed to hug the curbs because the edges of the rims are scraped up. The tires looked like performance tires, summer tires, and they looked very new, and the rims were flawless. Oh well..

I found a couple in a boneyard near Joplin, Missouri, yesterday. Engine, tranny, in both.

One has lots of other stuff, one had the pass. compartment burn. Both 87s, the more complete one is burgandy/grey interior.

I'm going back for the engine mounts.
