Interesting Call From Dealer-Parts Dept

FYI . . . for those of you that still want them . . .

I just received a call from my dealer's parts department.

Seems that the sunroof wind deflector that I ordered over a year ago just came in. He said "that they took them off the market at about the time I ordered because there were so many problems with them." He went on to say that he "thinks, that now the wind deflectors are over-engineered, all problems should (should - ha!) be eliminated." And lastly, they stayed at the old price - whatever that is. It's been too long. I think it's $45.

Did your car originally come w/ wind deflector? I was wanting to get (another one) since mine is cracked in several places. I was hoping that it would be covered under warranty. Maybe wishful thinking...

I ordered it the same day I picked up the car. The guy in the parts dept swears these new ones will not crack or vibrate . . .

I'll believe it when I see it.

I went to 5 different Nissan dealers here on the west coast and everyone told me they are still on a national backorder. All of the dealers told me when they come in they will replace the defective ones on the 2k2/2k3's when the new ones arrive....

I took mine off within a week of taking delivery of my car and it STILL left marks on the roof!! It's too cold for me to deal with removing them but it ticks me off that I already have slight scuff marks on the roof!!!

I'd sell mine for a song but since I leased the car I'll probably have to put it back on before I return it.

To me it just seems like a spot that snow and leaves will collect - no thanks!

Yep, they suck...took mine off after about a month and have very noticeable abrasions (especially on a black car) where the lousy thing was.

It was on the car when I bought it so I didn't have a choice of not having it installed.

That's why I take it off in the winter. Not like I'm going to open the roof anyhow. I must say though that the visor does reduce wind noise when cruising.

i just got my 2k2 with 29k miles on it. The damn thing has been on there for a year already. I'm scared to death to take it off because of what I'll find. The dealer said the piece of crap is covered under warranty but they are still back ordered. Probably too late to remove it as the edges have cut thru the paint.

I ordered a replacement under warranty for my 2K2 GLE 6+ months ago. They finally came in this week. I talked with the parts department and they said there were changes made to the design. I'm going in on Monday to get the new one installed. Any significant changes and I'll share them with the group.

So, does my 2k3 built 10/02 have the bad wind deflector or not? Ho would I tell? Only had the car a month - wind deflector looks fine, although it's usually coated with road salt, so it's hard to say.

You should see cracks around the two bolts on either side of the deflector. They used to say the unit was installed using too much torque but it's obvious they had an equipment problem of some sort.

New Sunroof Wind Deflectors

I stopped by the dealer and had my new sunroof wind deflector installed under warranty. The new unit is 2.5 to 3 times thicker than the original and has a bit of a lower profile. I doubt this one will crack.

I suppose Nissan has determined that it is more cost effective to replace these things as they come in instead of issuing a recall. Since there's not a safety issue at hand, they don't seem compelled to notify owners of this defective part.

I had mine taken off when I picked up the car from the dealer Friday. Hopefully with 0 miles it will not have left a mark. Hopefully. Won't be able to tell until I wash the car and take a look at it in the daytime.
