Would you buy a 93se 5spd for $3000?
it a good price, but with that kind of mileage it will still require some work. has the clutch been replaced yet? and eventually the VTC noise will get bad.
I say go for it. It will need a lot of maintanance, it will be fast as hell when your done (if you ever finish
)

If you want a proper car, let's take the worst case. If it's the rear VTC, replacement(rebuilds are not really recommended) will cost $400ish for the part and another $400-$600ish for the labor. And since you'r down in there w/ the intake/valve cover off, I'd take the rear exhaust manifold off and have them change the exhaust studs as a matter of course. It should be alot easier to access them from the top w/ all the stuff off.
So now you have about a $4000ish car but in excellent running condition. Not bad. Especially if you can get the guy to go down $400or so to help pay for the repair.
