I have 91 Maxima GXE Automatic Transmission.Yesterday,somehow reverse gear stopped working.But forward gear was working fine.After 20 mins of drive to work reverse gear started working again. Other thing I noticed ,in neutral it was going fwd !What could have gone wrong ? Will I have to get any parts changed ?

Sounds like worn shifter bushings. Do a search for 'shifter bushings'. Luckily if it's the bushings it's a very simple and inexpensive problem.

 

that happened to my 90 se...i took it to a tranny place and they said i seized gears together or somethin like that...all i know is that it cost me $1850...i was ****ed...cause it happened 6 months after i bought the car and i was only 16at the time...hopefully urs isnt that bad...good luck wit it
