Anyone have a rattle near the passenger dash?

I have this annoying rattle, thumping that happens near the passenger front dash, near the vent. It doesn't happen on smooth roads, but only when I hit bumps, etc.

Anyone else have this problem and know what panel is or what internal part is actually rattling?

Has anyone taken apart a Maxima dash before?

I have the same slight rattle that comes when I hit some bumps or when the bass hits hard..I'm too lazy to troubleshoot and I think it might be car-specific...mine is kinda near the vent .. if I do track it I will post and of course my nosy self will monitor this thread too

I am yet to take apart the dash and hope it is not needed to tackle this noise as mine isn't that bad that I can't stand it (yet)

I have the same problem. I thought the noise might be coming from a loose fitting vent piece which is located on top of the dash. I haven't had the chance to troubleshoot it yet though. I'll keep you posted if I find anything though..

Good luck

My car started making the same rattle after I pulled the center AC vent and radio console. It was perfectly quiet before.

Some day I'm going to pull the vent back off and do some investigating and maybe squirt some foam or something, but until then I'm going to have to live with it.

my mom's 96 has a big "rattle" (more like plastic rubbing on plastic noise) over at the corner of the pillar ont he passenger side. My car has some small interior rattles, but I just turn the tunes up. With a suspension like I have, I expect more rattles to come.

yeah i have 97 SE and i started hearing rattles on passenger side whenever bass hit hard or on rough roads. it turns out it was the the plastic piece that holds the power window switch on the door. took the door panal off and used double sided tape. no more rattles.

One of the other guys that posted had the same scenerio as you. If I remember correctly, the remedy was to use double-sided tape when re-installing the vent assembly after a stereo install. The same remedy applies for the corner vent piece on top of the dash.

that's exactly where mine rattles, although I'd say its more of a squeak.

My rattle is in between the passenger pilar and the dash, I just stuffed some cotton in there to remedy, try a search, I got that idea when I searched.

glad to see i'm not the only one with the problem.

the car has never been hit so i know it's not that.

it's definitely in the area of the front a-pillar and top vent, right above the glove box. definitely not the door, i think anyway.

what type of foam would you guys recommend to spray and where can i buy this stuff?

Me too, got that rattle. Usually happens when I hit bumps. I think it might have soemthing to do with the fan in the vent because when I start the car cold, and turn up the fan to high immediately, it rattles like that! it calms down once the car is warmed up, but it happens when i hit a bump as well.
weird if you ask me!!!

i have it too, but only if i turn on the heat on high when the car is cold. It's more of a loud hum than a squeak though. Also, it's only with the heat, because it never did it with the A/C.
