Very Important!!!! In Need Of A New Engine....
Hey guys,
This is really important...
I have a 96 SE maxima and it needs a new engine the timing chain was loose and it screwed up the DOHC and the valves were banging the cylinder heads.
the dealer wants 9 grand Canadian + labour for a new engine.
what are my options?
will the new 3.5 litre engine from the altima, maxima, 350z fit in the 96 max?
please let me know ASAP
Thanks

9 Grand?!! Holy jezus.. ok..thinks US dollars..um thats about $4.5k??
I believe you can get a decent used engine for under $1000.00 US
Not sure how much extra the install would be.. $500??
The more experienced engine swappers on here should be able to tell you..
Good Luck

Try www.car-part.com or www.woodfins.com, they have tons of used motors, many for well under $1500. VQ30DE's are not that expensive used and they are so reliable that you should be fairly safe with a used motor. Also, many places have extended warranties available on their used motors.
...or you could wait for the FIVE MILLION horsepower twin turbo engine coming out. It's only about the price of a "normal turbo setup." HAHAHAH
But seriously, if you plan on keeping the car for a long time, get an engine with under 50,000 miles, and while its out of the car, do some work on it, it's much easier that way. For example there are new header/y-pipe combos out that would be easy to install with the engine already out.

www.atk-engines.com not sure how good Factory Re-built engines are, but they sound new. Anyway the online price quote for 95-99 is $3195 + a $240 core deposit. Quite high pricing but maybe you can work a deal out with them.
new engine
My timing chain was loose too. I do not know why,
when I started the engine I heard metal grinding noise
from engineI , I tried to start the car
again later.
can you let me know how it happened to your car?
is your case similar to mine. Is there a possibility
to buy valves instead to buy a used engine ?
thank you for your reply.
