auto tranny shifting issues

never owned a car with an auto as lossy as the one in the max, so i am not sure if these issues are normal-

when the car is cold, at light throttle, it will hang in first gear for an uncomfortable amount of time, to about 5500, letting off the gas doesn't make it shift, but going WOT will, sometimes, going gull throttle, the rpm's will get to about 6500 and just hang, the car will stutter, and then ery slowly shift. car has almost 80k on it, and was previously driven by a retired couple, let an easy life. any thoughts? i tried using the search function, but none of the posts i uncovered seemed really that close to what i was looking for- car had 60k mile service 20k miles ago at nissan dealer, and no transmission problems were noted. is tis just a factor of the sloppy automax tranny?

I have never encountered what you are experiencing. I would first check the transmission fluid level. There is a dipstick located at the front left corner of the engine. Looking at the car, come straight down from the opening to the intake manifold......there it is.

If your fluid is OK, I would pull the engine codes to determine if the car has stored any codes.

If there are codes start there.

If not, wait for more replies here as there is bound to be other suggestions.

thanks for the response

didn't notice anything with the fluid (burned smell, doscoloration, metaflake) and engine codes were all clear...
