2000 se Auto transmission
Maybe I'm being a little picky, but I just got this car and have noticed that when the car shifts from 1st gear to 2nd gear that 2nd gear doesn't catch right away, unless you ease down on the excellerator and then it will go into second gear. Once the car warms up the transmission is normal and shifts fine. I have a Camry XLE 6 cylender as well that does not have any problems at all when shifting in cold or hot weather. Do you have the same condition on your car? I'm from NY and it has been a cold winter.
If you car is slow to shift from 1-2, your TCM needs to be updated
If you car jumps revs during a 2-3, your solenoid needs to be replace
You can find the TSB in the sticky threads at the top of the 5th generation forum.

I only ask these questions because Nissan is known for their awesome Engines and not really known (except by Owner's) for their crappy auto trannies. Anyway, I notice my auto started doing that on a long trip home from Chicago and later that same week, the stupid thing just up and died on me.
Not to frighten you but your tranny could be going, I'd have it checked out to make sure there's nothing wrong with it.
Good luck, I hope it's not the tranny and if it is, I hope you're still under warranty.

Again when I let up on the excellerator 2nd gear engages. 2nd gear will engage without letting up on the excellertor but you will feel the revs of the car going up. I have no problems with 3rd gear...fellows thanks for the input.

I had the TSB done on mine - better, but still nowhere near right. Took two trips, since they only replaced one part at a time. I was just under 60k at the time, and now at 76k. In the winter time, forget it. Car does NOT want to shift. Only plus is that it's been this way for months now. But in the next month or two, I'm having a tranny put in under a secondary warranty. Get it fixed now if it's still under. . .

TSB
I am having my car fixed as we speak for the same problem. I have the day off so I thought I would get it done. From first to second gear it doesn't want to shift until almost redline, then it shifts hard. I brought in the TSB and they are fixing it. Also, I brought in the TSB for warped rotors and they are putting new pads on as well as re-surfacing the rotors. I pick it up at 3:00 today and I will let you know how it went.
My Max had a slipping transmission. The first time that I mentioned it to my dealer, the checked it and said in was 'in spec'. I came back a couple times and complained about it and they knew that I had the TSB. SM said that they would fix it (no more questions). I took it in and they replaced the TCM and solenoid. Transmission has been much better since. Someday a Valve Body upgrade (maybe). Good luck.
Its Fixed
Just picked up my car. The rotors are great--no more sterring wheel judder. The car shifts perfectly now. I highly recommend that you get this taken care of, especially since its covered under the 3 year, 36000 mile warranty. This was my first experience with Nissan service and it was fantastic. No questions or anything. They also gave me a loaner car for the day. I am very impressed.

Is this freaky or just conspiracy theory on my part?
I just picked up my max from the dealer after having the following problems:
1. Max will not move after placing the auto into "R" or "D"
2. Max will rev in "R" or "D" like in neutral...I have auto...
3. Max will shift VERY hard into gear once engage. I mean jaw breaking shifts.
4. Will not shift from 1 to 2 or 2 to 3 unless I lift foot off gas pedal.
5. Going uphill felt like my old car with burned-out clutch.
Car Status:
= 2000 Max;
= All maintenance done according to Warranty;
= TSB for Transmission completed 8 months from picking up the car;
= currently have 38,000 miles
>Thank God< Dealer/Nissan Corporation fixed the transmission by:
1. Replacing with remanufactured transmission.
2. Replaced radiator. [service order states technician found the transmission tube clogged]
I'm certainly appreciate their decision to change it but it took 2 whole weeks to figure out trans needed to be replaced.
Lesson learned: Don't mess around, take the car in for replacement if 1)lag in shifting, 2)shifts hard (unless u modified to do so), 3)have a *gut* feeling its not working right; especially if you are still under warranty.
My ordeal in a nutshell...

man this sucks... my 2000 max is doing the same thing but i only have one problem... the car has 88,000 miles on it so warranty won't cover it. and to make things worse the tranny was rebuilt at 62,000 miles (3 grand)because nissan wouldn't look at it cause it was out of warranty. but the thing that really kills me is that i was totally unaware that there was a tsb out for the probem. oh well more money down the drain. maybe i should just convert it to a 5speed.....

same year, same model...jus warmit up a bit and take it slow until engine warms up.
I believe I have the same "problem" but I consider it minor compared to some of you.
My tach definitely does not rev up to redline before shifting into second!
The best I can explain it is: the time between shifts is a second longer and the engine goes "vroom" a bit more noticeably between the 1-2 shift point. It goes away when the engine is warmed up and after installing my Autopage startup/alarm my car, it is always warm before I take it out so the "problem" is gone. If my transmission does decide to go I'm swapping in a 5-speed tranny so no worries.

Yea, I may get a slight increase in revs (maybe a half of second) it is hardly noticeable(it could very well be in my head from reading these posts haha). It's been soo cold out lately that I haven't really noticed it. Anyhow I am planning on changing the tranny fluid even though I just got the car to be on the safe side.

Okay, I totally screwed up, my car is affected under the TSB and I just booked an appointment to get this fixed. The dealer told me that only if there is a Nissan TSB out on this part, and the part needs replacing that they will fix it under the 5 year 60K mile warrenty. So my question is I shoulden't have to pay anything to get this fixed right??
auto to5speed
i got a quote today about the swap and the shop that i took my car to said that it would be about 4500 dollars to do the whole thing. that is the lowest price i could find anywhere or to have anyone say that they would do it in the first place. about the warranty issues on the tranny, if you can prove in record that you took the car to nissan and they told you that the car was fine then they are to blame for the tranny and are obligated to cover all costs to fix the car to spec...<----got a lawyer friend who researched the problem for me.
