man i love my car
i was driving some new cars today at work (escort, cavalier etc) and WHAT JUNK!!! What is it with all these kids running cavaliers that they have hot stuff?? Everything seemed so cheap to the touch, and the engine!! So slow!! By far the worst was the metro. I am not hating cheap cars, i had to buy a cheap car, but I kept thinking I paid a quarter as much for my 95 and it is twenty times nicer. My point is i really love the max and you should too!!
Seriously, I cant imagine giving up my V6 5-speed for a litle 4 cylinder. I couldnt get over how slow they were!! They couldnt get out of their own way!! Again, i am not hating people who cant buy an expensive car! I just dont see the logic in buying a new metro when there is soooo much more out there.

My friend had to buy a metro recently... because he wasn't able to afford a better car. I don't think it's a cheap car, it's excellent for it's economical package. It's only considered cheap when you start to mod it or something. I wish i could share ure enthusiasm for loving ure very own max, but mine is ****ing me off, always leaking hear and there.
That is what I mean, mooded cars like that. They bug me.
Venompwr- I was just busting your chops. Remember when you first gave me a ride in your car? And I quote "I envy this car so much" Four months later one wound up in my driveway. I still do, it is really nice! only if it was a stick...

wtf new escort? you need to go out and drive other cars in the 5-7k range and see how nice they are. those 4 bangers might not be fast but think about the people who drive them. they dont go fast, they get aleast 5 MPG over yours, they spend less money other items. everyone has their own taste in cars. some people want to spend a lot and go fast, some people want a beater and some want safety stuff. the maxima is just a little of everything. all around decent car. not fast nor slow.

The 5spd max was my first car..then it was my second car..I am now really thinking about getting a 300zx. the max is paid off and I have wanted a z for as long as I can remeber. SO im looking for something to fix up to perfection. But I can get rid of the max. I have to much blood, sweat, and tears in her. I have a lot of pride in that car. But I want a 2 dr rwd..300zx! FTW!

dude face it, the maxima is an absolutly horrible platform for going fast. They are very nice cars for a DD, but other than that, go fast parts seem to be a total waste of money...
I could name 100x other cars that you can go faster in for less money. For example my old GTP. I knocked almost 2 seconds off the stock 1/4 mi time with $280 in mods. And even then I never hit a glass ceiling, the car had tons of potential.
edit: and fyi, I was on this forum before you could drive. Even now the forum is 90% threads about y pipes and clear tails. So lame...
We all know there are many cars out there that we can sink less money in and go faster. It's not all about going the fastest. Finding a platform that you like, and working toward the perfect formula to pull the potential out of it is where the fun is. I don't think anyone on this forum is looking to build the fastest car. If so, we'd all be doing it with a different platform. I personally like the way the car looks and the quality of car you get for the money. Import mods in general are expensive compared to domestic. However, imports are known to run stronger longer than domestics of the same generation and still retain their respective value. Of course everyone is entitled to his or her opinion, that's what makes public forums entertaining.

Having the fastest car for the least amount of money is lame to me because everyone and their mama has done it or can do it. A camaro running 11's? Big fawking whoop. I couldn't care less. People have been doing that for years. I'd rather start on an relative untapped platform and make the most out of it my own way. Besides, cars like V8 camaros or mustangs or the factory-turbo I4's have a set formula for modding the car. You can basically follow a blueprint of about 20,523 people that have done it before you to run a certain time or put down a certain amount of power. Once again, laaaaaame.

he's clearly an *** and trying to ruffle the feathers. Don't feed the trolls, man, not worth the time or effort.
and toddemullins and nismology, can't say it better myself man. Pick something you love and see potential in, and find the happiness from there.

eh. My main beef with maximas is all the money I wasted on them. Like $20k+. My point in resurrecting this thread was to take a jab at how lame I used to be. I used to think maximas were the complete ****. I guess over the years I totally lost it. And where did I talk about V8 Camaros? I referenced another overweight family sedan that IMO was 2x as fun as the maxima. I have enjoyed watching the maxima scene grow and grow, with more and more products coming to market. But when someone dumps $5k in mods in a car, and I smoke them with $200 in mods, I kind of have to wonder... Why?
Ive said this before. Maximas are GREAT DDs. Toss some coilovers, lsd, and an exhaust, and the car is fun as hell to drive. Beyond that its relatively pointless...
plus as time goes on 4th gens are getting soooooo dated...
oh, and if any of you guys are serious about building a 3.0 max, buy my longblock

... good point, everyone has different tastes ...
some say its dumb to put 20k in a car thats worth <10k but i think you should get what you want and make it into what you love. look at eclipses. would you rather have a 30k 06 gen 4 or have a 30k 2nd gen. same moeny same car but guess wiitch one is funner. its all about being comfotable. instead of ordering a 502 ram jet for my play truck. i took out the loan for a max. its not as fast as the truck but has a/c sunroof leather. and can take 90-98 stang GT's and most v6's out there. and for a lot less than a new EVO, i could have 400+ to the ground. im happy.

That was $280 wasted dude, FWDs are the incorrect chassis for people to enjoy.

Thats how i feel, i sold my 99 5 speed and bought a 06 g35 6 speed....it doesn't really make me happy.....im not that enthuastic about driving it around, sometime i really miss my max....
Just because a car is more upscale doesn't automatically mean you'll enjoy driving it more. I've been driving my mom's 540 to work for the past month or so and i miss driving my max. Go figure...

I personally think the Max is a great all-around vehicle. True it is not as fast stock as a 5.0 mustang, or does not have the mod potential of an original DiamondStar, but it can also carry 4 people comfortably on a trip, drive 95 mph on the freeway all day w/o a hitch, and has what other cars don't: a soul. I also have a Saab 9-5 which is a very nice car, but I prefer to drive the Maxima. The Max is lightweight for its size too, at just a tic over 3000 lbs that ain't too shabby, anyone see what the new Jetta weighs? YIKES! It gets decent fuel economy, and it is faster than 95% of the cars on the road. The engine is as smooth as silk, makes power from idle to redline, and is reliable. What else could you want? If you can find a better used car in the $5000-$7000 range, then buy it, but don't be hating on the Max. It is a damn fine automobile.

My point exactly...how many cars that run as stong as the Maxima will you find on the road in the same or better condition after 100k miles. Many of the Maximas in this forum are gettting boosted and sprayed long after 100k and not failing. Good luck doing that on a domestic muscle motor.

nah. after that. I remember when the 1st turbo maximas were being put together, and when the stillen s/c kit was the ****. Now theres a bunch of turbo kits available on the market. I give props to all the OG dudes who essentially did all the R/D for marketable turbo setups...
Sucks that over the years the maxima turned into such a boat

3rd and 4th gens were pretty light...
