The only downside to the HIDs is the fact that they get stolen, and there are 100 posts on that. So, my conclusion is that:

Better distance would mean brighter lights for oncoming cars wouldnt it?

Not necessarily, I look at BMWs and Benzs that seem to put a further distance on stock HID lights.

What you talking about? What you mean "right" HID bulbs? Are you talking about fake HID bulbs or true D2R or D2S HID bulbs?

As in the right bulbs. I was one if the first people on this site to get HID modded to my 2000 max. I was told that the ones I needed was the bulbs without the metal guard, but as we all know now, you need the guard or else you get alot of "bleed" of light, and most of which is yellow.

Which still works, but it goes from blue to white to a tint you yellow. weird. but its damn bright and the light cast on the road is white. The bleed is yellow which in turn kinda makes it good for Fog or hazy drivingweather. hehe

Yeap definetely need that. I take it you got the D2S bulb then. Cause the D2S bulb doesnt have the deflector. The D2R bulbs have the deflectors.

Did you get a Hi-Lo kit? So you can still retain the high beams?

I LUV mine! Hey, couldn't you just re-aim your headlights to allow them to illuminate further? You know, raise the angle just a tad?

Hey, it's my first post.

That is correct. Nope, this was way before the hi-lo kit was avail. heck I had to hardwire mine into the wiring. It didn't even come with the adapter for the bulbs. Had to do that all myself. I can't belive how easy it is now with the newer kits.

HIDs SUCK when there is HEAVY snow falling. They are so bright that every god da!! snowflake is illuminated making it difficult to see. It makes it hard to see the road because your eyes keep getting lulled into looking at the flakes. It is definetly something you have to experience. It's crazy.

Other than that, I love them!

BMW and Acura lights seem to be brighter than Maxima's when you are looking from a distance. Especially the new "purple" colored BMW xenon headlights.

I love mine too. I just wish that Nissan made Bi-Xenon so the high beams would be hids too. More light = better!

Me too. I love how the xenon headlights make the Maxima look a lot more like a luxury car.

i have to agree. theirs seems to be more intense prob due to the projector lens. now with hids in fogs, i tend to eclipse their beam but only when i'm side by side (+/- few feet). the next brightest would be the lexus ES-series imo...which has a similar (but more refined) reflector housing. but either way, i love the intensity of my HIDs. if a new car doesn't come equip with them, i would have to think twice about buying it.

Thats how I think. The lights really do make a big difference to me.

Yes, I love mine too. When I'm going to be in the market for my next car (hopefully not for a while), this will be a necessary option for me.

As far as BMW lights are concerned, I've driven behind a 3 series bimmer with HIDs and a Max that was next to it, and I couldn't tell that the BMW beam was hitting further, or had any more output to the ground. I was specifically looking for this as I'm "obsessed" with HIDs. The bimmer lights do look purple from a distance, but that's only because of how the light comes out of the projector lens (it gets bent, and so you see other colors on the spectrum). However, they burn at the same temps I believe, and so if you look at each dead on, you'll see that they are both the same color -- very white.

I think the older TL Acura has very purple lights compared to ours and most other newer cars (even the newer TL), yet it's not a projector. It must be higher temp bulbs or something.

Anyhow, I actually think our HIDs are one of the best out there (better than the new ES300 Lexus for sure).

the HIDs were a big deciding factor in why I got this car. I love em! If it wasn't for the HIDs..I would probably be driving a Passat.

People think I am crazy when I talk about the lights and how they make a difference and why I love them. They say " They're just lights" but it is a big deal when it comes to a nice car. I don't think a car can be very nice without them.

Mercedes xenons are weird looking. Looking at them up close they do not look that bright because their headlights are not clear, they have a coating over them. But from a distance they are just as bright as any of the others.
